Apple’s New M6 MacBook Pro and iMac Are Here: Specs, Prices and 6 November Release Date

Apple has refreshed two of its most popular Macs in a single day. The company on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, announced a new 14-inch MacBook Pro and a new 24-inch iMac, both powered by its latest M6 chip. Pre-orders open on Wednesday, 28 October, with availability from Friday, 6 November, in the markets Apple has announced.

The announcement caps a busy October for Apple. It follows Monday’s new OLED iPad mini and comes just a day before the company’s “Pro and tell” launch experience in Los Angeles on 28 October, where reports expect a redesigned MacBook Pro to appear. For now, though, the two machines announced today are straightforward chip upgrades — and the M6 chip itself is the real story.

What Apple announced today

Apple unveiled two machines, both built around the M6 chip it first introduced in August 2026 inside the new Mac mini. The 14-inch MacBook Pro keeps its existing design and gains the M6 chip, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and what Apple calls the longest battery life ever in a Mac: up to 24 hours. The 24-inch iMac, its first update in two years, gets the same M6 chip, Wi-Fi 7 and faster storage, while keeping its colourful all-in-one design and 4.5K Retina display.

Both machines run macOS 27 and support Apple Intelligence with Siri AI. Both go on pre-order on 28 October at 10:10 a.m. Pacific Time through Apple’s website and the Apple Store app, with availability starting 6 November. The MacBook Pro starts at $1,999 in the United States, while the iMac starts at $1,499.

Apple has not announced a Pakistan price or launch date for either machine, and this article does not guess one. United States prices are quoted throughout, and Pakistani buyers should watch authorised resellers for local pricing rather than treating a currency conversion as a price tag.

The M6 chip: Apple’s first 2-nanometre Mac processor

The M6 is Apple’s first Mac chip built on a 2-nanometre process, a step down from the 3-nanometre process used for the M5. In practical terms, that smaller process lets Apple pack more transistors into the same space, which usually means more performance without a matching rise in power draw.

The chip carries a 12-core CPU — two super cores, four performance cores and six efficiency cores — and a 12-core GPU, each GPU core fitted with its own Neural Accelerator for AI work. It also introduces Apple’s first Dual 16-core Neural Engine: two 16-core engines working together, which Apple says delivers up to twice the peak AI compute of the previous generation. Memory bandwidth reaches 170GB/s, up from 153GB/s on the M5, and unified memory is configurable up to 32GB on these machines.

Apple’s headline performance claims are worth reading carefully, because they describe different tests. Against the M5 MacBook Pro, Apple claims up to 30 percent faster graphics and up to 25 percent faster performance in certain AI tasks. Against the M4 iMac, it claims up to five times faster on-device AI performance and up to twice the graphics speed. Those are Apple’s own figures, not independent benchmarks, and real-world gains will vary by workload.

14-inch MacBook Pro with M6: specs, battery and price

The new 14-inch MacBook Pro is, from the outside, the same machine as before. It keeps its Liquid Retina XDR display, its professional port selection and its Space Black and Silver finishes. The changes are inside: the M6 chip, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 through Apple’s N1 wireless chip, and a battery Apple rates at up to 24 hours — the longest ever claimed for a Mac.

The base model ships with 16GB of unified memory and 1TB of storage, double the base storage of the M5 model after Apple removed the 512GB option in March 2026. Memory can be configured up to 32GB and storage up to 4TB. The port set includes three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe 3 charging and a 3.5mm headphone jack. A 12-megapixel Center Stage camera, a six-speaker sound system and an optional nano-texture display for cutting reflections round out the package.

Fast charging is supported too: with a sufficiently powerful compatible USB-C adapter, such as a 96W unit, the battery can reach around 50 percent in about 30 minutes. The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 starts at $1,999 in the United States, or $1,899 with education pricing. 24-inch iMac with M6: colours, models and price

The iMac update is the bigger jump of the two, because the previous model ran the M4 chip from 2024. The new 24-inch iMac keeps the same thin, colourful design and the same 24-inch 4.5K Retina display with up to 500 nits of brightness, but everything driving it is new.

There are two models to choose between, and the choice matters beyond the chip. The $1,499 base model pairs a 10-core CPU with a 10-core GPU, 16GB of memory, 256GB of storage and two Thunderbolt 4 ports. The $1,699 model steps up to a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU with four Thunderbolt 4 ports. The higher model also unlocks extras including Touch ID on the keyboard and the nano-texture glass option, so buyers should pick the tier first and the colour second.

Both models come in the same seven colours as before — blue, green, pink, yellow, purple, orange and silver — with colour-matched accessories. Both keep the 12-megapixel Center Stage camera with Desk View, a six-speaker sound system, three microphones and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Storage can be configured up to 2TB with up to twice the read and write speeds of the previous model, and the machine can drive up to two external 6K displays. Optional 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet is available, and a VESA mount adapter can be fitted at no extra charge.

What this means for buyers in Pakistan

No Pakistan price or date has been announced yet for the M6 Macs. (Representative photo)

For Pakistani buyers, the honest position is that today is an announcement, not a local launch. Apple said pre-orders open in 35 countries and regions, but it has not confirmed Pakistan-specific pricing or availability for either machine, and no authorised local price should be quoted until resellers publish one.

That does not make the news irrelevant here. “Apple MacBook Pro” is trending in Google searches in Pakistan today, and the M6 machines set the reference point for every MacBook and iMac that reaches the local market through official and grey channels in the coming months. The practical takeaway is simple: anyone planning to buy a MacBook Pro or an iMac in the next few weeks should wait for M6 stock and M6-based local pricing rather than paying full price for an M5 or M4 machine that is now a generation old.

Students and professionals should also note the configuration trap on the iMac. The cheaper model looks like a bargain until you need the extra ports, Touch ID or nano-texture glass — all of which require the $1,699 tier. On the MacBook Pro, the base 16GB and 1TB configuration is genuinely usable, but buyers who edit video or run local AI models should budget for the 32GB memory option while ordering, because Apple silicon memory cannot be upgraded later.

What comes next: the 28 October “Pro and tell” event

Today’s announcements are only the first half of Apple’s Mac week. The company has invited media to an all-day “Pro and tell” launch experience in Los Angeles on Wednesday, 28 October, and reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman expect it to feature a redesigned MacBook Pro with a touchscreen OLED display, keeping the MacBook Pro name rather than the once-rumoured “MacBook Ultra”.

That redesigned machine has not been announced, and this article treats it as a report, not a fact. But the timing matters for buyers: anyone considering the M6 MacBook Pro announced today may want to see what Apple shows tomorrow before deciding, because a redesigned model could change the value of the current design overnight. The same logic applied yesterday, when Apple announced its new OLED iPad mini ahead of the event — read our coverage of Apple’s new OLED iPad mini with A20 Pro power.

Apple’s October run has been relentless: the foldable iPhone Duo reached stores on 23 October, the OLED iPad mini arrived on 26 October, and now the M6 Macs land on 27 October. Whatever tomorrow’s event brings, the Mac line-up has already changed more in one week than it did in the previous year — and Pakistani buyers, who follow every Apple launch closely, will be watching the local price lists next.
