The wait is finally over for shooter fans in Pakistan and around the world. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is out today — Friday, 23 October 2026 — and it is the biggest launch the franchise has seen in years. Developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision, the new title arrives with a fresh campaign, a reworked multiplayer and the return of the DMZ extraction mode, and it brings Call of Duty back to a Nintendo console for the first time in more than a decade.
Modern Warfare 4 release date, platforms and editions
The Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 release date is 23 October 2026, with the full game unlocking at midnight local time across regions. The game is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (through Battle.net, Steam and Xbox on PC) and Nintendo Switch 2, which is getting a native version built specially for the handheld.
Two editions are on sale. The Standard Edition costs $69.99 and covers the full game. The Vault Edition costs $99.99 and adds the Hostile Alliance and Special Forces Operator packs, a Signature Weapon collection, one season of BlackCell and a DMZ deployment bonus. Players who buy Standard can upgrade to Vault later for $30.
One big talking point is what is not on the list: the game skips the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One entirely. It is also not on Xbox Game Pass at launch — Activision says it will arrive on the subscription service in Holiday 2027, breaking the recent pattern set by Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7.
Campaign: a Korean Peninsula war story
The single-player campaign centres on a war between North and South Korea. Players step into the boots of Private Park, a South Korean soldier fighting as the North launches an invasion across the border. Alongside that story, series favourite Captain Price returns in a separate covert-operations storyline that eventually crosses paths with the main conflict.
Missions stretch across several combat environments — from Korea itself to New York, Paris and Mumbai — giving the campaign a globe-hopping feel. Early reviews, based on the pre-release build, have been positive, with critics singling out the campaign mode for praise.
Multiplayer and the return of DMZ
Multiplayer launches with 12 core 6v6 maps, backed by Ground War and Gunfight map pools, making for about 20 maps in total at release. The standout addition is Kill Block, a new map with dynamic layouts that rearrange as matches progress — more than 500 possible configurations, according to the developers.
Fan favourites are returning too: the Ninja perk is back as a standard option, Theater mode makes a comeback so players can record and review matches, and map voting is back. A new mode called Collateral, which plays closer to Counter-Strike and Valorant, arrives at launch, while the ever-popular Shipment map joins the rotation on 27 October.
The DMZ extraction mode is back for the first time since Modern Warfare II (2022), and its early access opened on 20 October for players who pre-ordered digitally — campaign early access had already begun on 16 October.
Gameplay changes players will feel immediately
Infinity Ward has reworked some of the series’ long-standing mechanics. The controversial hipfire bloom — which punished accuracy when firing without aiming — has been removed. Movement has been expanded so players can hang and shimmy along edges and pipes, and the whole game runs on a new user interface with a cleaner pull-out menu design.
The launch is coming earlier than usual, and so is Season 1, arriving on 4 November — barely ten days after release, where past titles waited three to four weeks. Activision is clearly giving Modern Warfare 4 a head start, with industry watchers noting the game was moved up from its usual November window ahead of next year’s GTA 6.
What Pakistani gamers should know
For Pakistani players, the important points are simple. There is no last-gen version, so PS4 and Xbox One owners will need a current console or a PC to play. On PC, the game needs a 115GB SSD and requires TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot enabled for online play — worth checking before buying.
The Nintendo Switch 2 version is the surprise of this launch: a fully native build, developed with Digital Legends, rather than a cloud port. And with cross-play across platforms, Pakistani players will share servers with the global community from day one.
No official Pakistan pricing has been announced, so players should check their region’s store on PlayStation, Xbox or Steam before purchasing, as local taxes and currency conversion apply. (For reference, the PlayStation Store India lists the Standard Edition at ₹5,999 and the Vault Edition at ₹8,249.)
With positive early previews, a fresh story and one of the largest launch map pools in recent Call of Duty history, Modern Warfare 4 is shaping up as a strong holiday-season contender — and for Pakistan’s large shooter community, today is the day.
