Rockstar Games has brought the Grand Theft Auto VI pre-load forward by two days. Players who pre-ordered the game digitally can now begin downloading on Tuesday, 10 November — a full nine days before the game’s 19 November launch — the studio confirmed in a Newswire update on 3 November.
Alongside the new date, Rockstar revealed the download size for the first time: the pre-load file will need up to 212GB of free space, depending on the device. Sony’s own launch guidance goes further, telling PS5 owners to clear a minimum of 212GB before the pre-download begins.
When the GTA 6 pre-load starts on PS5 and Xbox
The two consoles do not share the same start time. On PlayStation 5, pre-loading begins on 10 November at midnight local time in each player’s time zone — so players in New Zealand and Australia get the download first, and North America comes last. On Xbox Series X|S, there is a single worldwide start time: 12:00 a.m. GMT on 10 November, which means the download opens on the evening of 9 November in the United States — 4 p.m. Pacific and 7 p.m. Eastern.
The new date corrects earlier guidance. Rockstar’s original pre-order announcement in June put the pre-load on 12 November, and a late-October report from a PlayStation Store tracking account echoed the same date with a 210GB size. Both figures are now superseded: the date moved two days earlier, and the official size added 2GB to the leak. Pre-loading is reserved for digital pre-orders only, and the game cannot be played before launch night even once the download finishes. Players buying boxed copies should note that GTA 6 comes as code-in-box — there is no disc in the case — and those editions reach retailers from 12 November, two days after the digital pre-load starts. Shoppers should also know that the earlier 12 November date has been replaced by the new schedule.

What 212GB really means for your console’s storage
“Up to 212GB depending on your device” is Rockstar’s official wording, and the studio has not published a per-console breakdown — so the PS5 and Xbox builds may not be exactly the same size. To put the number in perspective: on an original 825GB PlayStation 5, with roughly 667GB of usable space, GTA 6 will swallow about a third of the entire drive. On an Xbox Series S, with around 364GB usable, the game would take well over half. Rockstar has said nothing about a day-one patch, so the final installed footprint could grow further after launch.
For Pakistani players the download time is the real planning question. 212GB equals 1,696 gigabits — on a 50 Mbps connection that works out to roughly nine to ten hours at full sustained speed, in the best case. On a 100 Mbps line it is closer to four or five hours. The practical advice is simple: clear the space and start the download the moment the pre-load window opens, not on launch night.

How to make sure the download starts on time
Rockstar’s support guidance lists a short checklist for each console. On PlayStation 5, players must have auto-downloads enabled, and the console must be powered on or in Rest Mode. On Xbox Series X|S, automatic updates must be enabled, with the console powered on or in Sleep mode.
The Standard Edition is listed at $79.99 on the PlayStation Store, and Rockstar has warned that the 212GB figure is the space the pre-load file needs — compressed downloads and installation overhead can change the picture slightly. There is no confirmed word on whether a PS5 Pro build needs a different amount, or how much extra room the console needs during installation. What is confirmed is that the firm pre-load date and start times for both consoles leave no room for guesswork: clear at least 212GB before midnight on 10 November.

What this means for Pakistani gamers
Grand Theft Auto VI launches on 19 November at midnight local time — again, New Zealand gets in first and the rollout follows the clock around the world. The game arrives only on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S; no PC release date has been announced, so PC players are still waiting for their own timeline. The story returns to a sun-soaked, Miami-style setting — Leonida — a playground Rockstar has been teasing since the first trailer, and one that will demand every one of those 212 gigabytes.
Between the moved-up date and confirmed the date in a 3 November update, the message from Rockstar is clear: the countdown is no longer about weeks but about storage space. Players who pre-ordered digitally get a nine-day head start — and Pakistani gamers with slower connections will want every hour of it.
