At the stroke of midnight on his 61st birthday, Shah Rukh Khan did what only he can do: he turned a birthday into a global music event. The first song from his much-awaited action thriller King, titled “Tu Mil Jaaye,” landed online — and within hours it shot to the very top of YouTube’s trending chart in Pakistan. The reason everyone is talking about it? For the first time ever, Bollywood’s most beloved voice, Arijit Singh, shares a track with global pop superstar Ed Sheeran.
A birthday bombshell at midnight
The makers of King waited for the clock to strike twelve on 2 November — Shah Rukh Khan’s birthday — before unveiling the song. The 3-minute-42-second music video arrived on the T-Series and Zee Music Company YouTube channels and all major streaming platforms at once, instantly sending fans into overdrive.
The release is the first musical reveal from King, Siddharth Anand’s action entertainer starring Khan in the lead, and it doubles as the opening salvo of a promotional campaign that will run all the way to the film’s Christmas release. Within a day, “Tu Mil Jaaye” had climbed to number one on YouTube’s trending list in Pakistan, a sign of just how deeply SRK’s fandom runs on this side of the border.
Birthday week in Mumbai had already turned into a King festival: the Bandra-Worli Sea Link was lit up with Shah Rukh’s picture and a “2 days to go” message, and his bungalow Mannat was wrapped in giant King branding turning the sea-facing home into Bollywood’s biggest birthday screen.
Ed Sheeran meets Arijit Singh on one track

The headline-making detail of “Tu Mil Jaaye” is its once-in-a-lifetime musical line-up. The romantic number is composed by Sachin-Jigar, with Hindi lyrics by Kumaar and soulful vocals by Arijit Singh and Madhubanti Bagchi. And then, just when listeners think they have the measure of the track, Ed Sheeran steps in with an English rap section — written and performed by the British star himself, featured courtesy of Interscope Records and Gingerbread Man Records.
It is an unprecedented cross-border collaboration: India’s biggest playback voice and the world’s most-streamed songwriter on the same Bollywood soundtrack. The choreography is by Piyush-Shazia, and the track was mixed and mastered by Eric Pillai at Future Sound of Bombay.
Early reactions from music critics call the soundscape fresh and novel, with the Hindi-English blend giving the song what trade watchers describe as genuine international appeal — exactly the kind of talking point that helps a song travel far beyond its home market.
SRK and Deepika Padukone reunite on screen

The video itself reunites one of Bollywood’s most loved pairs. Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone — together in Om Shanti Om, Chennai Express, Happy New Year, Pathaan and Jawan — share sweeping romantic sequences: intimate getaways, cafes, and sun-soaked beach moments. Deepika makes a glamorous entrance in orange, and their chemistry remains the video’s biggest draw.
But this is no ordinary romantic number. The video opens with SRK’s trademark dramatic dialogue — “Main qaatil nahi, aashiq hoon, aur nishana meri mashooqa, aur woh aashiq hi kya jo dil cheer na de” (I am not a killer, I am a lover, and my target is my beloved) — and closes with another chilling line: “Par is baar dil mein aag lagi hai, ab duniya jalaye bina manega nahi” (This time, a fire has been lit in my heart — it will not stop without setting the world ablaze).
Some critics have noted that the visuals echo “Besharam Rang” from Pathaan — unsurprising, given that the same director and the same lead pair are involved — but the new track stakes its own ground with its peppy, funky energy and its international musical guest.
The video’s hidden hints about King
Between the romantic passages, the video drops teasing glimpses of Khan’s darker side in the film: smuggling guns at a dockyard, dealing with gangsters, and knocking down enemies. In King, directed by Siddharth Anand and produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures, SRK plays a veteran assassin operating in the underworld.
The film’s recently revealed poster carried the caption “Qaatil Nahi… Aashiq Hai… #KING. In cinemas 24.12.2026,” — killer no, lover yes — a tagline the song now brings to life. The ensemble cast around the two leads includes Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Jaideep Ahlawat, Arshad Warsi and Raghav Juyal.
It marks Khan’s reunion with Anand after Pathaan, and trade circles are already predicting the year’s biggest Bollywood opening when it lands worldwide on 24 December 2026.
Records, reactions and the road to 24 December
The numbers tell their own story. A midnight release on a superstar’s birthday, a first-ever Arijit-Ed Sheeran collaboration, and SRK-Deepika romance have combined into one of the most talked-about song drops of the year — cementing King’s place among the most anticipated releases of 2026.
With the first song officially beginning the film’s musical campaign, fans now wait for the trailer — and the countdown to 24 December has well and truly begun. As the song’s refrain puts it: kabhi jo tu mil jaaye, kahin jo tu mil jaaye, dil ko sukoon aaye — whenever I find you, my heart finds peace. For SRK’s fans in Pakistan and beyond, December cannot come soon enough.
