Shah Rukh Khan turned 61 on Monday, 2 November 2026 — and his birthday arrived with a full promotional offensive for his most anticipated film in years. The first song from his action thriller King reportedly dropped at midnight, with three towering posters of the film projected onto the facade of his Mumbai home, Mannat, turning the sea-facing bungalow into what fans are calling Bollywood’s biggest birthday screen.
It is a fitting start to the campaign for a film that has dominated trade chatter all year. King, directed by Siddharth Anand after his blockbuster collaboration with Khan on Pathaan, is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on 24 December 2026 — a Christmas-weekend release that the industry already expects to close out the year.
The midnight drop and the giant screen

According to multiple outlets, the King team timed its first promotional asset for 12:00 AM on the actor’s birthday. Director Siddharth Anand added to the frenzy by posting three cryptic one-word messages at midnight — “It’s Time for the world To Celebrate” — which fans quickly assembled into a teaser announcement.
The real spectacle, however, was outside Mannat itself. Fans filming at Bandstand Promenade in Bandra West found the bungalow’s facade transformed into a giant screen, with King posters displayed across the front of the house. The setup built anticipation through the night before the first track arrived. Fans also reported the Bandra-Worli Sea Link glowing in celebration, a level of on-ground activation usually reserved for the film’s biggest moments.
Caution is warranted on one point: while several outlets describe the song as released, the makers had not issued a separate official announcement confirming the exact format of the midnight drop at the time of reporting. Reports differ on whether the birthday gift was the full song, a teaser, or the poster event itself — fans should treat the precise format as expected rather than confirmed until the release lands.
Who sings the birthday song

What is better established is the music. Shah Rukh Khan himself told fans in a September interaction that Arijit Singh would sing the lead track of King, adding that the singer was taking his time to perfect it. A report in Variety India subsequently said the first song would arrive around the actor’s birthday.
Box Office Worldwide went further, reporting the track is titled “Tu Mil Jaaye Toh” and pairs Ed Sheeran with Arijit Singh — a collaboration that would mark Sheeran’s first Bollywood song. That specific claim has not been verified by the production team or other major outlets, so it remains in the rumour column for now.
Behind the scenes, the film’s music department has seen a shake-up: composer Anirudh Ravichander has reportedly stepped away from the full album and background score because of scheduling commitments, leaving behind a special theme track composed as a mark of respect for Khan.
No balcony greeting this year

One birthday tradition will not be happening in 2026. For years, fans have gathered outside Mannat on 2 November to watch Khan wave from his balcony. According to reports, the actor will not be in Mumbai on his birthday this year — he is expected in London, where a song for King is scheduled to be shot.
It continues a recent pattern: for the past two years, Khan has skipped the customary Mannat appearance in favour of private fan gatherings at Mumbai’s Bal Gandharva Rang Mandir, and reports say a fan meet-and-greet is likely ahead of the film’s December release.
Adding to the unusual atmosphere, Mannat is currently undergoing reconstruction and expansion, with Khan and his family reportedly moved temporarily to luxury duplex apartments in Pali Hill, Bandra. The giant-screen transformation of the bungalow therefore doubles as a construction-hoarding stunt — quite possibly the most glamorous building wrap in the country.
What to expect from King

Beyond the birthday noise, King is shaping up as one of the biggest Indian releases of 2026. The action thriller marks Khan‘s return to the big screen after Dunki, and the cast reads like a Bollywood roll of honour: his daughter Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, Jackie Shroff and Arshad Warsi, with reports of a special appearance by Kareena Kapoor in a grand number titled “Daddy Cool”.
The film is backed by Red Chillies Entertainment and directed by Siddharth Anand, whose most recent promotional caption for the film — “Qaatil Nahi… Aashiq Hai… #KING. In cinemas 24.12.2026” — has already been dissected by fans as a tonal clue: a killer who is, at heart, a lover.
With less than two months to the Christmas release, the birthday drop is only the beginning. The official trailer is expected to follow
