Sixteen years after they last shared Karan Johar’s famous couch as a young dating couple, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor are returning to Koffee With Karan together — and this time, the conversation turns to the most difficult night of their lives.
The episode is the fourth of the show’s ninth and final season, which Johar announced would be its last on 30 September, bringing the curtain down on a 22-year run. The season premiered on 14 October with Salman Khan and Karisma Kapoor as the first guests, and the new episode featuring Saif and Kareena streams on JioHotstar.
A rare, sombre look at the January 2025 attack
According to Zoom TV, which published details of the episode on 4 November, the couple gives a deeply personal account of the home intrusion at their Bandra apartment on the night of 16 January 2025, when an intruder confronted their domestic staff and Saif was stabbed while shielding his family.
Saif described that night as the most difficult of his life. He spoke candidly about the severity of his injuries, which required a six-hour surgical procedure, and said he spent several days recovering before returning home on 21 January.
The accused, identified as Mohammed Shariful, was arrested by Mumbai Police three days after the confrontation. The trial formally began in October 2026 after the court refused the accused’s request to plead guilty. During the trial, the family’s staff nurse — the complainant and first witness — testified that the intruder had demanded Rs 1 crore during the break-in, identifying Shariful in court.
The case took a striking turn earlier this year when Saif said in an interview that he wanted to forgive the man who had tried to kill him — a statement that drew wide attention across the industry.
Kareena: “I couldn’t sleep for six months”
Kareena Kapoor’s account forms the emotional core of the episode. She described the attack and its aftermath as deeply distressing, revealing that the psychological impact left her unable to sleep for six months.
Recounting the chaos of that night, she said she found herself screaming for help on the street outside their building, describing the scene as feeling like something out of a film. The episode also touches on the support the family received from loved ones while Saif recovered — a recovery that played out under intense public scrutiny.
Banter, nepotism jabs and the famous rapid-fire round
It is not all heavy. True to the spirit of the show, the episode carries its share of mischief. In the teaser, Kareena reacts to the news of Koffee With Karan ending with a grin: “I’m happy and relieved. We don’t have to keep coming on Koffee with Karan.” A visibly emotional Johar replied, “Thank you for showing your sensitivity towards the last season of the show.”
Saif, meanwhile, joked that he had been “wrongly cast” for the segment, and the couple took playful jabs at the host over nepotism — Kareena quipping that “nepo babies are gaining popularity worldwide” before Johar cut in with a laugh: “For you!” The rapid-fire round delivered its own moment when Saif answered “Kobita” when asked to name an actor starting with K, leaving Kareena asking, “Who is Kobita?”
A 16-year reunion on the couch
Saif and Kareena last appeared together on Koffee With Karan in Season 3 back in 2010, when they were still dating and two years away from their 2012 wedding. Sixteen years, two children and one of Bollywood’s most shocking ordeals later, their return to the couch carries a weight few celebrity interviews can claim.
The timing is no accident. With the final season drawing to a close, Johar has been bringing back the pairings that defined the show’s golden years — and few pairings defined it like Saif and Kareena, whose 2010 appearance remains one of the most rewatched episodes in the show’s history. The reunion is already the talk of showbiz circles on both sides of the border.
The Saif–Kareena episode streams exclusively on JioHotstar — a must-watch for fans, and a rare window into how the couple survived the hardest chapter of their lives.
