SECP Launches 24/7 Security Operations Centre to Combat Cyber Threats

SECP Launches 24/7 Security Operations Centre to Combat Cyber Threats

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has set up a modern SECP Security Operations Centre to protect its critical information assets, detect cyber threats at an early stage and respond to them in time, marking a major upgrade in the regulator’s digital defences. The state-of-the-art centre was inaugurated on Monday, October 20, 2026, by National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) Chairman Lieutenant General Muhammad Munir Afsar.

Who inaugurated the SECP Security Operations Centre

The inauguration ceremony was attended by SECP Chairman Dr Kabir Ahmed Sidhu, Commissioners Imtiaz Haider, Muzaffar Ahmed Mirza and Zeeshan Khattak, along with other senior officials. The NADRA chairman inaugurated the facility and appreciated the initiative, underlining the importance of strong cybersecurity for institutions that handle sensitive financial data.

In a separate meeting, Dr Sidhu briefed the NADRA chairman on the commission’s IT reforms, infrastructure modernisation and the adoption of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies to improve service delivery and facilitate ease of doing business.

What the new SOC will do

The SECP Security Operations Centre will continuously monitor the commission’s networks, endpoints, servers and private cloud environments. The facility is designed to deliver real-time threat monitoring, rapid incident detection and quick mitigation across the regulator’s digital ecosystem.

According to officials, the centre uses advanced threat intelligence frameworks and predictive analytics to identify software vulnerabilities and neutralise potential breaches before they can disrupt business operations or compromise critical regulatory databases. The deployment comes at a time when financial institutions and regulators across the region face increasingly complex targeted cyberattacks, ransomware and data theft.

Backed by UK funding and global standards

The project was completed in line with recognised international standards and global best practices. Karandaaz Pakistan acted as the implementing agency for the United Kingdom Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), the centre was enabled by Inara Technologies Pakistan, and it is supported by REWTERZ under a Managed Security Services Provider agreement.

The SECP Security Operations Centre will operate around the clock, keeping a watch over the commission’s networks, servers and cloud systems to ensure that threats are spotted and contained without delay.

SECP’s plan for a sector-wide cyber shield

The SECP also plans to integrate the Security Operations Centres of Capital Market Institutions (CMIs) into a sector-wide framework for sharing threat intelligence and coordinating incident response. The initiative supports the commission’s envisioned role as the sectoral Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) and the sectoral Security Operations Centre, strengthening both cybersecurity and operational resilience for Pakistan’s capital markets.

Officials said the commission will work closely with national cyber response teams, international cybersecurity experts and regulated financial entities to standardise security protocols. The SECP is also expected to roll out updated cybersecurity directives and comprehensive audit frameworks for capital market participants in the coming months.

Part of Pakistan’s wider cyber defence push

The new facility is not being built in isolation. The government inaugurated the National Cyber Security Operations Centre at National CERT in August 2026, and national cyber response teams have since been advising government departments and critical organisations to strengthen web application firewalls, DDoS protection and multi-factor authentication on public-facing systems.

The SECP Security Operations Centre extends that national effort into the capital markets, where a single breach could shake investor confidence across the entire financial system. With regulators increasingly relying on artificial intelligence and real-time analytics, the commission’s round-the-clock monitoring centre places Pakistan’s market watchdog on a firmer footing against the ransomware and data-theft campaigns targeting the region’s financial institutions.

Why the SECP Security Operations Centre matters

By establishing its own dedicated cyber defence facility, the SECP aims to bolster investor trust, shield capital markets from systemic digital risks and set a cybersecurity benchmark for private corporate entities operating in Pakistan’s expanding digital economy. The move also reflects a broader push across Pakistani regulators to harden digital infrastructure, following the National CERT’s advisories on protecting public-facing systems, activating web application firewalls and keeping intrusion detection systems on critical servers.

For investors and market participants, the new SECP Security Operations Centre signals that the country’s market regulator is treating cyber resilience as a core part of financial stability — not just an IT upgrade.
