Nana Patekar Death: What Happened on 8 October

Patekar was at his home in Dona Paula, near Panaji in Goa. In the early hours of the morning, he told a family friend over WhatsApp — at around 2:30 a.m. — that he was feeling unwell. He was rushed to Manipal Hospital in Dona Paula, where doctors administered CPR for approximately 45 minutes. He could not be revived and was declared dead at 5:10 a.m.

Cause of Death: Autopsy Report

The final post-mortem report, released on 11 October by a team of doctors at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Bambolim, confirmed that Nana Patekar died of a heart attack. The report states the cause as “acute myocardial infarction due to left main coronary artery thrombosis secondary to atherosclerotic occlusive coronary artery disease” — a blood clot blocking the main coronary artery, classified as a natural cause of death.

Goa Police confirmed the findings to the news agency IANS, and the family was informed of the report and raised no objections. Panaji police had initially registered a case of unnatural death (standard procedure), which is expected to be closed now that foul play has been ruled out.

Cremated With Full State Honours

Patekar’s son Malhar arrived in Goa to bring his father’s body back. The actor was cremated with full state honours at his farmhouse in Donje village, Pune district, and was accorded a three-gun salute. Film personalities including Jackie Shroff, directors Anil Sharma and Anees Bazmee, and producer Firoz Nadiadwala attended the last rites, while Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde paid their respects.

Clearing Up the Confusion

Because the news broke through social media before official confirmation, some viral posts questioned whether the death was real. It is: the death has been confirmed by the Goa police, the autopsy report, the family, and multiple national news outlets. Unsubstantiated conspiracy claims circulating online have no official backing. When a major public figure dies, always wait for confirmation from reputable outlets or official statements before believing — or sharing — dramatic claims.

A Legendary Career

Nana Patekar was one of Indian cinema’s most respected actors — a National Award winner celebrated for intense, powerful performances across Hindi and Marathi cinema, including Krantiveer, Khamoshi: The Musical, Welcome and Ab Tak Chhappan. Beyond films, he was widely admired for his philanthropic work supporting farmers and drought-affected communities in Maharashtra through the NAAM Foundation.
