Adele’s Secret Album “39” Could Drop Without Warning in November, Reports Say

Adele could be about to return to music — and if the latest reports are correct, fans will get no warning at all.

Five years after her last album, the British superstar is reported to have secretly finished her fifth studio album and could release it unannounced as soon as this month. The claim, carried in a Daily Mail report on 7 November, says the record has been four years in the making, worked on quietly since 2022, and could simply appear overnight.

Neither Adele nor her team has confirmed anything. No release date, no tracklist and no official title has been announced. But the report has set off a wave of excitement among fans who have waited five years since 30, her fourth album, which arrived on 19 November 2021. If the rumours are right, the wait may be almost over — and the release could come with no build-up at all.

A secret album, finished in private

A very senior music industry source told the Daily Mail that the 16-time Grammy Award winner has completed the album. “I hear that it is done,” the source said. The report says Adele has been working on the record in secret for four years, since 2022.

This time, the report says, she plans to do things the modern way — releasing the music without fanfare, in its entirety, in the style of Beyoncé’s famous surprise album drop in 2013. That would mean no lead single, no announcement and no countdown. The album would simply appear.

November would be a natural month for it. It is widely seen as the best time of the year for major music releases, and Adele has form here: her last two albums both arrived in November. 25 came out in November 2015, and 30 followed on 19 November 2021.

Why the new album could be called 39

Reports suggest the album could be titled 39, continuing the naming pattern Adele has followed throughout her career. Her albums have always carried the age she was when she began working on them: 19, then 21, then 25, then 30.

Adele turned 38 earlier this year. The title 39 would fit a record that arrives next year, when she turns 39 in May 2027. The Scottish Sun reported in late October that 39 is the working title being discussed, although neither the name nor the timing has been confirmed.

The title is only part of the speculation. What matters more to fans is that new music appears to exist at all, after years in which Adele said she wanted an extended break from recording and performing.

Fame and London roots

The new songs are said to explore two themes close to Adele: her experience of fame, and her London roots. According to the reports, the album reflects her relationship with celebrity, her personal insecurities, her romantic happiness and her connection to the city where she grew up.

That would be a deeply personal record, in keeping with the albums that made her famous. 21 and 25 were both built on her own life, and 30 dealt openly with her divorce and its effect on her son. A record about fame and home would follow the same honest pattern.

The reports also say she has been working with longtime collaborators, although her management has denied reports that she has been recording with producer Paul Epworth, who worked on her earliest hits.

The other timeline: next summer

Not every report agrees on when the album will arrive. The Scottish Sun’s account points to next summer rather than this November, with the record tipped for release in the summer months and the plans still being worked through.

That leaves two very different timelines in play: a surprise November drop within weeks, or a planned release next summer. Both cannot be right, and neither has been confirmed by Adele’s label. Fans should treat both as unconfirmed reports until an official announcement is made.

What is clear is that the speculation itself has become one of the most closely watched music stories of the year. Adele is one of the biggest-selling artists of her generation, and any new album from her would be a major event.

What we know for sure

Away from the rumours, several facts are confirmed. Adele’s last studio album, 30, was released on 19 November 2021 and became one of the best-selling records of the decade. She has won 16 Grammy Awards across her career.

Her Las Vegas residency, Weekends with Adele, ran from November 2022 to November 2024 at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. After it ended, she said she wanted a long break from performing.

She will also be seen on screen early next year in her acting debut, in Tom Ford’s period drama Cry To Heaven, based on the 1982 novel by Anne Rice. The film role is confirmed; the album is not.

Until Adele or her record label speaks, the November release remains a rumour — an exciting one, but a rumour. The strongest signal fans have is the pattern of her career: her biggest albums have arrived in November, and November 2026 would be five years to the month since 30. If she is planning a surprise, this is the month she would choose.
