Fatima Effendi Opens Up About Severe Postpartum Depression: “Only Allah Pulled Me Out of It”

Pakistani television actress Fatima Effendi has shared one of the most personal posts of her career, revealing that she spent six months in severe postpartum depression after the birth of her daughter — and that faith is what carried her out of it.

Taking to Instagram, the actress wrote that her little daughter is the sunshine Allah blessed her with, but that the months after the birth pulled her into what she described as an isolation and hibernation mode. “For the past 6 months I have been in isolation and hibernation mode because of severe postpartum depression and only Allah pulled me out of it,” she wrote, adding that her husband stood by her side through it all.

The confession has struck a chord with thousands of her followers, many of them young mothers, who flooded the comments with their own experiences and prayers for her.

Fatima’s post was striking for its honesty. Where celebrity social media usually shows polished family moments, she described a darker reality: half a year cut off from the world, battling a condition she called severe postpartum depression, with only her faith and her husband pulling her through.

She ended the note with a request that revealed where she is now emotionally: “Need duas for my Azneera,” asking her followers to pray for her daughter.

Mental health experts say postpartum depression affects a significant share of new mothers in Pakistan — one widely cited estimate puts it near 37 per cent — yet it remains rarely spoken about, which is exactly why fans are praising Fatima for saying it out loud.

Fatima took a step back from the media industry after the birth of her daughter in May 2026. The actress, known for popular dramas including Kaash Main Teri Beti Na Hoti, Zindaan, Munafiq, Muqaddar Ka Sitara and Betiyaan, and more recently Tera Wada, Adawat and Muqaddar, has been largely absent from screens since becoming a mother.

Her post now explains the silence behind that absence — and it reframes the break not as a career pause but as a period of real personal struggle that she chose to face away from the cameras.

It is a reminder that celebrity breaks are not always strategic. Sometimes, as in Fatima’s case, they are simply survival — a young mother trying to find her footing while the industry moves on without her.

The hijab and a new relationship with faith

In the same period, Fatima made two other changes that fans noticed: a few months ago she began observing the hijab, and she deleted many of her old pictures from social media — a quiet, visible step away from the image-driven world of showbiz.

Her Instagram post gives those changes their meaning. She wrote that all her life she had been introduced to a God she feared — one ready to punish her if she was not a perfect Muslim — but that the difficult months brought her to a different understanding: names of Allah like Al Wadud, Al Barr, Al Lateef, Al Wali, Ar Rahman and Ar Raheem. “He accepts me with my flaws,” she wrote, “no one in this world loves you like Him.”

“Be kind to people and He will love you with all your flaws,” she added — a line fans are now quoting across social media.

Kanwar Arsalan’s support and the fans who stood with her

Through the hardest months, Fatima credited her husband, actor Kanwar Arsalan, as her unwavering support. He responded publicly with a message of his own: “You are the most beautiful soul I have ever met in my life,” he wrote, promising to stand by her “through every thick and thin, every challenge and every beautiful moment.”

The couple’s bond has drawn as much attention as the revelation itself. Colleagues including Aiman Khan, Laila Wasti and Farah Nadeem were among those who sent prayers and support, and fans have filled the comments with stories of their own postpartum struggles — turning one actress’s confession into a rare public conversation about maternal mental health in Pakistan.

Like many celebrity parenthood moments on the platform — from Mawra Hocane welcoming her son Azmar to Sarah Khan sharing newborn Rania’s milestones — Fatima’s post shows how a personal family milestone can open a window onto something much bigger.
