Veteran Pakistani singer Humaira Channa has become the latest victim of Karachi’s car-theft problem after her vehicle was stolen from the Char Minar Chowrangi area of Bahadurabad. According to media reports, the incident took place on Thursday, 30 October 2026, near the Char Minar roundabout in the busy Bahadurabad neighbourhood.

Police confirmed that a vehicle theft case has been registered at the New Town Police Station, and an investigation is underway to trace the stolen car and identify those responsible. No arrests had been reported at the time the story broke.

What was inside the stolen car

The stolen vehicle contained more than just the car itself. Reports say a mobile phone, new clothes bought for children, a ladies’ handbag and other valuables were inside when the car was taken. For the singer, the loss is personal as well as financial — everyday items and belongings she had been carrying were taken along with the vehicle.

Home Minister takes notice

The incident has drawn the attention of the provincial government. Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar took notice of the theft and sought a detailed report from the Senior Superintendent of Police of the Anti-Car Lifting Cell and SSP East, according to media reports.

The minister directed the authorities to use all available technical resources to trace the stolen vehicle and identify the culprits. He instructed that immediate steps be taken to arrest the suspects involved and recover the car. Lanjar also expressed concern over the incident, describing artists as valuable assets of society.

Karachi’s car-theft problem

The theft is part of a much larger pattern in the city. According to Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) data cited in media coverage, Karachi recorded 973 car thefts and 135 car-snatching incidents between January and August 2026. Bahadurabad and surrounding East district neighbourhoods have repeatedly featured in vehicle-lifting reports, and police say organised car-lifter groups continue to operate despite regular crackdowns.

For ordinary residents, the numbers are a reminder to take precautions — parking in well-lit areas, using steering locks and installing trackers, which have helped police recover stolen vehicles in several past cases. Police in Karachi have periodically announced crackdowns on car-lifter gangs, with joint Rangers-police operations recovering dozens of stolen vehicles in record operations in past years, but vehicle owners say theft remains a daily worry in many neighbourhoods.

Who is Humaira Channa

Humaira Channa is one of Pakistan’s most decorated playback singers. She began her career in the 1980s as a substitute singer for Naheed Akhtar and rose to become a leading voice of Pakistani film music, recording more than a thousand songs in Urdu, Punjabi, Saraiki and Sindhi.

She has won six Nigar Awards for best female playback singer — in 1986, 1989, 1991, 1993, 1994 and 1997 — making her the third most-decorated singer in the award’s history, behind only Noor Jehan and Mehnaz. She later performed on Coke Studio and received the Pride of Performance award from the President of Pakistan in 2017. In recent years she has continued to perform on stage, including a British Council “Sound and Legacy” concert celebrating Pakistani women musicians, and has spoken openly about the early struggles of her career — including family opposition when she chose singing — in television interviews.

What happens next

Police say the investigation is continuing and authorities have been instructed to ensure the vehicle is traced and recovered. With the Home Minister personally seeking a report, the case is likely to stay in the spotlight — and fans of the singer are hoping the car, and her belongings, are found quickly.
