Ufone Closes In on Jazz as Pakistan’s Mobile Subscribers Hit 211.47 Million
Pakistan’s mobile industry has a genuine title race on its hands. According to September 2026 data cited by Arif Habib Limited and reported by Bloom Pakistan on 1 November, Ufone has narrowed the gap with Jazz to just 150,000 subscribers — bringing the country’s two biggest mobile operators almost neck and neck for the first time.
The milestone lands as Pakistan’s total mobile subscriber base crossed 211.47 million in September, an increase of 10.91 million users since December 2025. For an industry that has been adding customers at a steady clip through a year of economic pressure, the tightening contest at the top is the story of the year so far.
A 150,000-Subscriber Gap at the Top
Jazz remains Pakistan’s largest mobile operator with 76.44 million subscribers and a 36.15 per cent share of the market, the figures show. But Ufone is now breathing down its neck at 76.29 million subscribers and a 36.08 per cent share.
The difference — roughly 150,000 connections — is the smallest margin ever recorded between the two leaders. In a market of more than 211 million SIMs, that gap is a rounding error, and it turns the number-one position into a genuinely contestable prize for the first time in years.
Pakistan Crosses 211.47 Million Connections
The headline number is itself a record. Pakistan’s cellular subscriber base reached 211.47 million in September, growing by about 300,000 connections in the month alone — a monthly increase of 0.14 per cent.
The 10.91 million additions since December 2025 show that mobile connectivity is still expanding even as the market matures. With biometric verification drives and regulatory tightening continuing in the background, the net growth suggests genuine demand rather than inactive SIM inflation.
The Telenor Factor Behind Ufone’s Climb
Ufone’s surge needs honest context: its reported 76.29 million figure is the combined customer base after the consolidation of Telenor Pakistan into the PTML-operated Ufone business. It does not reflect standalone organic growth by the Ufone brand.
That distinction matters, but it does not diminish the commercial reality. The integration has reshaped the competitive map overnight — turning what was a clear two-player lead into a three-way contest where the second slot is effectively tied. Ufone recorded the highest net additions of any operator in the first nine months of 2026, with 4.83 million new connections.
Zong in Third, SCO Holds Its Niche
Zong sits third with 56.62 million subscribers and a 26.78 per cent share. The operator added 3.48 million connections in the first nine months of the year — a healthy pace that keeps it firmly in the leading pack.
Special Communications Organization (SCO), which serves Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, rounds out the tally with 2.12 million subscribers — around one per cent of the market, but a strategically important niche in the country’s northern regions.
Who Added the Most Subscribers in 2026
The nine-month net addition leaderboard tells its own story. Ufone led the field with 4.83 million reported net additions, followed by Zong at 3.48 million, while Jazz added 2.58 million connections.
Jazz’s slower net additions are not necessarily a weakness — the operator still commands the largest base, and growth naturally slows at scale. But the numbers show the momentum is with its challengers, which is exactly what a competitive market should look like.
What the Tight Race Means for Mobile Users
For consumers, a genuine contest for the top spot is good news. When operators fight for every hundred thousand subscribers, the pressure rises on network quality, data prices and package value — the three things Pakistani mobile users care about most.
The coming months will test whether Ufone’s combined base can overtake Jazz’s lead, and whether Jazz responds with network or pricing moves. One thing is certain: with the gap at just 150,000, Pakistan’s mobile crown is closer than it has ever been.
