Fawad Khan 2026: Dramas, Films and Latest News
Fawad Khan is having one of the busiest years of his career in 2026, with a cross-border film release, a long-awaited local romantic drama, a Netflix original series and multiple streaming projects all moving forward at once. The Humsafar and The Legend of Maula Jatt star has carefully balanced Pakistani cinema, television and international work — and this year that strategy is paying off. Here is the complete guide to his 2026: films, dramas and latest news.
Fawad Khan Films: Aabeer Gulaal and Neelofar
The biggest Fawad Khan headline of 2026 is Aabeer Gulaal (renamed from Abir Gulaal), his romantic comedy opposite Vaani Kapoor directed by Aarti S. Bagdi. After being delayed from its original May 2026 date amid India-Pakistan tensions, the film released on 12 September 2026 in more than 1,000 theatres across 75 countries — everywhere except India, as reported by Emra News. At home, fans finally saw his reunion with Mahira Khan in Neelofar, the Ammar Rasool romantic drama in which he plays writer Mansoor Ali Khan opposite Mahira’s visually impaired Neelofar. He also served as the film’s executive producer alongside Hassaan Khalid.
On Streaming: Netflix and SonyLIV
Fawad Khan’s streaming slate is equally packed. He stars in Jo Bachay Hain Sang Samait Lo, Pakistan’s first Netflix original series, alongside Mahira Khan, Sanam Saeed, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Ahad Raza Mir, Hania Aamir and Maya Ali — though the release date remains unannounced. His SonyLIV series Shandur, currently in post-production, reunites him with Sanam Saeed after Zindagi Gulzar Hai (2012) and Barzakh (2024). He is also attached to The Prisoner, a gritty 1990s crime-thriller series based on Omar Shahid Hamid’s bestselling novel, in which he will play DSP Akbar Khan; the project is in pre-production.
Pakistan Idol and New Film Projects
As The News reported in early October 2026, the star currently serves as a judge on Pakistan Idol Season 2, which began airing on Geo TV earlier this year. He also has two new films lined up pairing him with leading television stars Ayeza Khan and Iqra Aziz — a significant move as Pakistani commercial cinema looks to bring TV’s biggest names to the big screen. The long-discussed Alamgir biopic Albela Rahi, meanwhile, remains in development after its original team moved on to other commitments.
The Humsafar Legacy and Mahira Khan Reunion
No profile of Fawad Khan is complete without the Mahira Khan connection. Their chemistry in Humsafar (2011) made them South Asia’s most beloved on-screen pair, and Neelofar marks their third major collaboration after The Legend of Maula Jatt (2022). During the film’s Dubai promotions, the usually private star opened up about the difficult phases of recent years in a rare emotional moment that left Mahira visibly moved — a clip that went viral across Pakistani social media. What Is Next for the Star
With Aabeer Gulaal released, Neelofar in cinemas, Shandur nearing completion and The Prisoner in pre-production, Fawad Khan’s pipeline is fuller than at any point in his career. His willingness to move between music television judging, streaming dramas and commercial films keeps him relevant across every audience segment.
