Ramayana Fever Grips Pakistan: Karachi Temple Celebration Ahead of 5 November Worldwide Release

Viral Videos Show Karachi Celebrating Ramayana

Ramayana Pakistan fever has taken over social media. Videos that surfaced on 29 October 2026 show members of Karachi’s Hindu community celebrating Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming epic Ramayana, putting up the film’s posters at a temple and cheering for the movie even though it is not releasing in Pakistan.

A local Karachi YouTuber shared the footage online, and the clips quickly spread across X, Instagram and Facebook. In the videos, people are seen displaying posters of the film — featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash — at a temple, and several members of the community are heard wishing the cast and the director success. Some even expressed hope that the film would earn an Oscar, according to reports published on 29 October.

The Ramayana Pakistan buzz is remarkable because of the circumstances: Indian films do not get a theatrical release in Pakistan, yet the excitement in Karachi rivals what is being seen in Indian cities ahead of the film’s release. Fans in Pakistan have taken to the streets with posters, demanding that Ramayana be released in their country too.

The Film Behind the Frenzy: Ramayana: Rise of a Legend

The film at the centre of the Ramayana Pakistan celebrations is Ramayana: Rise of a Legend, the first part of a planned two-part mythological saga. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari — the filmmaker behind Dangal and Chhichhore — the epic is produced by Namit Malhotra under the Prime Focus Studios banner alongside Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, with Sony Pictures Entertainment handling the worldwide release.

Adapted for the big screen by Shridhar Raghavan and Nitesh Tiwari, the film has been mounted on a massive scale, with visual artists whose credits include The Odyssey and Dune working on the project. The makers have positioned it as the most immersive 3D cinematic experience ever, releasing exclusively in theatres, IMAX and premium large formats.

Ranbir Kapoor Leads as Lord Rama

Ranbir Kapoor headlines the cast as Lord Rama, in what is being described as one of the most ambitious roles of his career. The Ranbir Kapoor Ramayana pairing has driven enormous pre-release interest, with the actor’s transformation for the mythological role becoming a talking point across fan communities in both India and Pakistan.

Reports have also suggested that Ranbir may be seen in a dual role, possibly as Maharishi Parashuram in addition to Rama, though the makers have not officially confirmed this. Whatever the final shape of his performance, the Ranbir Kapoor Ramayana combination is the single biggest reason the film is being discussed as a potential box-office landmark.

Yash’s Ravana and the Los Angeles Premiere That Lit the Fuse

Kannada superstar Yash plays the immortal King Ravana in the film — and also serves as a co-producer, a rare double responsibility. His menacing look from the trailers has been widely shared, and the Rama-versus-Ravana face-off is the core of the marketing campaign.

The film held its world premiere in Los Angeles on 27 October at the Academy Museum, and that event lit the fuse for the current Ramayana Pakistan wave. During a red-carpet interaction, Sai Pallavi’s remark that “Ravana is not all bad” went viral on social media, sparking widespread discussion about the film’s interpretation of the epic. Why Pakistan Is Watching, Even Without a Theatrical Release

The ban on Indian films in Pakistan — a consequence of long-running political and military tensions — means Ramayana will not screen in Pakistani cinemas. Yet the Ramayana Pakistan phenomenon shows that cultural curiosity crosses borders. Karachi has a visible Hindu community with deep-rooted traditions: the historic Swaminarayan Mandir on Muhammad Ali Jinnah Road has hosted Dussehra celebrations for decades, drawing large crowds, and in July 2025 a Karachi theatre group staged the Ramayana epic itself at the Arts Council, selling nearly 1,000 tickets.

This is not the first time temple-linked videos from Karachi have gone viral either. A separate clip earlier claimed to show India’s Oscar-eligible animated film Mahavatar Narasimha screening at the Swaminarayan Mandir in Karachi, racking up millions of views and warm reactions on both sides of the border. Whether or not that video was authentic, the appetite is clearly there — and Ramayana is now the biggest beneficiary of it.

Release Date, Formats and What Comes Next

The Ramayana movie release date is now confirmed: the film opens in cinemas worldwide on Thursday, 5 November 2026, in the heart of the Diwali festive season. The makers preponed the date in October, unifying the Indian and international release after initially planning staggered dates, and advance ticket bookings have already begun in several markets.

The film will release in Hindi and English, in 2D, 3D and IMAX formats. PVR INOX Pictures is reportedly giving Ramayana IMAX screens to itself, with rival releases being moved to avoid a clash. The second part of the saga is planned for Diwali 2027, making this November the launch of a two-year mythological franchise.

For now, the Ramayana Pakistan story is about fandom without a screen — posters at a temple, viral videos and Oscar wishes from a city that will have to wait for the film’s digital release to actually watch it.
