Google Brings AI Mode Ads to Pakistan: What Changes for Search, Shoppers and Advertisers

Google is bringing advertising into its AI-powered search experience in Pakistan. On 28 October 2026, the company announced it is scaling ads in AI Mode to ten new countries, and Pakistan is on the list. For Pakistani users, that means sponsored results will start appearing inside — and alongside — the conversational answers Google’s AI Mode gives, not just in the familiar list of blue links.

The Google AI Mode ads Pakistan rollout matters because it changes where advertising sits in the search journey. AI Mode is Google’s conversational search experience: instead of typing a short query and scanning ten links, users ask longer, follow-up questions and get a direct AI-generated answer. Google says those queries are, on average, three times longer than traditional searches. When a question has commercial intent — or when intent emerges from the AI’s own answer — an ad can now appear as part of that conversation.

Google announced on 28 October 2026 that ads in AI Mode are being scaled to Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Singapore. The announcement was made in a post on Google’s Keyword blog by Shashi Thakur, vice president and general manager of Google Search Ads and Ads on Google Experiences. Google said it plans to expand to further countries in the fourth quarter of 2026, including Brazil, Mexico and the United Kingdom.

Alongside the international expansion, Google is launching multiturn ads in the United States, allowing ads to appear in follow-up queries within AI Mode.

This is not a sudden launch from nowhere. Google began testing ads in AI Mode on 21 May 2025, and its AI Mode report says the product has passed one billion monthly active users globally.

For advertisers, the most practical point is that there is no new campaign type to build. According to Google’s Ads Help documentation, existing Search, Shopping and Performance Max campaigns are automatically eligible to serve ads within AI Overviews and AI Mode through the Google Ads auction. Text ads and Shopping ads can appear in both experiences, and Google says it is experimenting with other formats, such as local inventory ads and vehicle ads.

Google matches ads in two ways. When a user’s query already expresses clear commercial intent, ads are matched directly to that query. When someone asks a longer, exploratory question and commercial intent emerges from the AI response, ads are matched contextually to both the query and the response.

Some placements carry an AI explainer — concise, independent text generated by Google’s Gemini models to explain how an ad relates to what the user is looking for. Advertisers cannot manually write, edit, approve or opt out of AI explainers. All Google AI Mode ads Pakistan placements are clearly labelled “Sponsored”, Google says, and the company states that paid advertising does not influence the organic responses generated by Google AI.

Pakistani readers should note an important qualification. While the 28 October announcement lists Pakistan among the ten new countries, Google’s Ads Help documentation draws a narrower line for this market: it lists ads within AI Overviews and AI Mode as available in English in the United States, Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, the Philippines and Singapore, with Indonesia listed for AI Overviews only and Pakistan listed for text ads only. Google adds that the list may not be exhaustive.

In plain terms, the Google AI Mode ads Pakistan story is real, but its local shape is narrower than the full Shopping-ad experience available in several other markets. Pakistani users should expect to see sponsored text ads in AI Mode first, rather than assuming every Shopping format available in the United States is live here on day one. That distinction matters for businesses planning campaigns — and for users trying to tell a sponsored text result from a full product listing.

Google has also published a claim that deserves the same care. The company says click-through rates are already similar between sponsored and organic product list items within AI Mode, citing its own internal United States data from 20 August to 3 September 2026. That figure is Google’s own, drawn from a short United States window, and it has not been independently verified. It is a signal about one market, not a promise about Google AI Mode ads Pakistan results.

What it means for Pakistani businesses and advertisers

For Pakistani businesses, the immediate implication of Google AI Mode ads Pakistan is that existing campaigns may start appearing in a new place without any new budget line. Google says advertisers are not charged extra to participate, and the same auction and cost-per-click or conversion-based bidding models apply as in standard Google Search. But advertisers cannot target ads exclusively to AI Overviews or AI Mode, and they cannot opt out of those placements separately from Search. Existing guardrails, such as negative keywords and brand exclusions, continue to apply.

Targeting rules also shape who is eligible. AI-powered targeting, including AI Max for Search campaigns, broad match on Search, Shopping campaigns and Performance Max, is eligible for both contextual and direct query matching. Exact and phrase match keywords on Search, by contrast, are eligible only when a user’s query expresses direct commercial intent.

What it means for ordinary searchers in Pakistan

For ordinary users, the change is subtler but real. Search is becoming a conversation, and under Google AI Mode ads Pakistan, advertising is following the conversation rather than sitting only above or below a results page. A user researching a phone or a university course may now see a sponsored option woven into the AI answer itself, labelled “Sponsored”, with an AI explainer describing why it is relevant. Check the label, compare the sponsored option with organic results, and remember that a sponsored placement is there because an advertiser paid to be there, not because Google ranked it the best answer.

Seen alongside Pakistan’s wider AI push — including the November deadline set for Alibaba-backed AI and digitalisation projects and the rapid arrival of AI agents such as Meta’s Muse, covered in our report on the Nvidia Meta Muse partnership — the Google AI Mode ads Pakistan expansion is another sign that AI is moving from novelty to infrastructure. The question for Pakistan is whether users can still tell the difference, and whether the text-ads-only starting point in Pakistan widens into the fuller format other markets already have.
