Karachi residents should not expect the usual winter chill any time soon. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast above-normal temperatures in the port city throughout November 2026, warning that both daytime and night-time readings are likely to stay higher than the seasonal average.
According to the Met Office, the immediate outlook is even hotter. Hot and dry weather is expected to persist in Karachi until Friday, with daytime temperatures potentially touching 38°C during this period.
Heat to Persist Until Friday, Then Gradual Easing
In a statement issued on Monday, the PMD said the intensity of the heat is likely to remain high over the coming days, with the mercury potentially reaching 38°C by Friday.
After Friday, temperatures are expected to settle between 34°C and 36°C, suggesting that daytime heat will ease slightly but remain relatively high. The department said the current pattern of hot and dry conditions will dominate the city’s weather for the rest of the week.
For a city that usually begins to feel the first hints of cooler weather in late October, the continued heat is a reminder that Karachi’s transition into winter often lags behind the rest of the country.
Cooler Nights Offer Some Relief
There is at least some good news for residents. The PMD said cooler nights have already begun in Karachi, with night-time temperatures expected to fall to around 22°C in the coming days.
This marks the start of the familiar Karachi pattern where evenings and early mornings bring noticeable relief even as afternoons stay warm. However, the department cautioned that the overall temperature pattern is likely to remain warmer than normal.
November Forecast: Warmer Than Average
The most striking part of the PMD’s outlook concerns November itself. The Met Office forecast that Karachi will likely see above-normal temperatures during the entire month.
Daytime temperatures in November are expected to range between 33°C and 35°C, while night-time readings are likely to stay between 19°C and 22°C throughout the month.
These figures sit clearly above the city’s normal averages. Karachi’s normal daytime temperature for November is 32.6°C, while the usual night-time temperature is 17.7°C. The forecast indicates that both day and night readings will remain above these monthly averages.
Why Karachi Feels Winter Late
Meteorologists say Karachi’s coastal climate is the main reason behind the delayed arrival of winter. Being situated on the Arabian Sea coast, the city absorbs heat through the day and releases it slowly, keeping temperatures elevated longer than in inland areas.
The PMD said changing weather patterns and prevailing atmospheric conditions are also contributing to the warmer-than-usual outlook. Dry conditions, with no significant rainfall forecast, are adding to the persistence of the heat.
Weather conditions are expected to remain largely dry across the city in the immediate period, with authorities continuing to monitor temperature trends and other weather systems.
How to Stay Updated
The Pakistan Meteorological Department updates its forecasts regularly, and residents can track daily temperature trends through the department’s official channels. Short-term forecasts for the next 24 to 48 hours are the most reliable for planning outdoor activities, while longer-range outlooks like the November forecast give a general picture of seasonal trends.
Local media outlets and weather applications also relay the PMD’s advisories, making it easy for residents to check the day’s expected high and low before stepping out. During warm spells, keeping an eye on the forecast helps families plan school commutes, work travel and outdoor exercise around the cooler morning and evening hours.
What Residents Should Do
With several warm days still ahead, the Met Office has advised residents to take precautions during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated and limit prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, particularly the elderly and those working outdoors.
While cooler nights will bring some comfort, the PMD’s message is clear: winter, at least for Karachi, is arriving later than usual this year, and residents should prepare for an extended stretch of above-average warmth.
