Rahat Fateh Ali Khan 2026: Songs, Concerts and Latest News
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan continues to carry one of the most revered voices in South Asian music into 2026, headlining the “Once Upon a Time” world tour with his son Shah Zaman Ali Khan. As the nephew and musical heir of the legendary Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, the singer has spent nearly three decades blending qawwali, Sufi music and Bollywood playback into a singular career. This guide covers his biography, his most beloved songs, his 2026 tour dates and the latest news about Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan: Biography and Musical Legacy
Born into the famous Khan family of Faisalabad, he trained from childhood under his uncle, Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, the man widely regarded as the greatest qawwali singer in history. After Nusrat’s death in 1997, the young singer stepped into enormous shoes, leading the family qawwali party and gradually winning over audiences who initially compared him to his uncle. His Bollywood breakthrough came with “Mann Ki Lagan” from Paap (2003), and he has since recorded some of the most memorable Hindi film songs of the past two decades.
What sets the Ustad apart is his command of classical technique combined with popular appeal. His Coke Studio rendition of “Afreen Afreen”, performed by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan as a tribute — a tribute to his uncle’s classic — became one of the most-watched Pakistani music videos ever, while songs like “Tum Jo Aaye” (Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai), “Bol Na Halke Halke” (Jhoom Barabar Jhoom) and “Tere Mast Mast Do Nain” (Dabangg) made him a fixture of Bollywood soundtracks. He remains a regular presence at Coke Studio Pakistan and at Sufi music festivals across the world.
Songs Fans Love
His repertoire crosses spiritual compositions, romantic ballads and high-energy qawwali. “Afreen Afreen” remains his signature recording, while “Zaroori Tha”, “O Re Piya” (Aaja Nachle), “Jiya Dhadak Dhadak Jaye” (Kalyug) and “Sajda” (My Name Is Khan) showcase his range as a playback singer. Traditional qawwali pieces like “Mast Qalandar” and “Allah Hoo” feature in his live sets, where his ability to hold a note and improvise around a melody keeps audiences spellbound for hours.
Concerts and the 2026 World Tour
The big story of the year is the “Once Upon a Time” world tour 2026, which sees him sharing the stage with his 23-year-old son Shah Zaman Ali Khan in an intergenerational celebration of the family’s music. According to event listings, the tour opened in Boston on 2 October 2026, followed by dates in New York (Nassau Coliseum, 3 October), New Jersey (10 October), Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Los Angeles and Oakland through October and November. A Dubai date at Coca-Cola Arena on 26 December 2026 was billed as his eighth appearance at the venue, with tickets starting from AED 95. A London date at The O2 on 18 April 2027 is also listed.
At the New York press conference, the singer told media the US shows would include new material and special surprises at each stop, while Shah Zaman said he hoped to establish his own identity as an artist alongside carrying the family legacy forward.
