Peshawar Lahore direct flights will begin on Monday, 9 November 2026, giving travellers a new air link between the capitals of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi announced the launch on Saturday, 7 November, confirming that the first flight will depart from Peshawar at around 1pm on Iqbal Day. The service will be operated by private carrier South Air, and it cuts a journey that takes five to six hours by road down to roughly an hour in the air.
The Peshawar Lahore direct flights will run four times a week to begin with, with the frequency set to increase if demand grows. The governor said the route was being restored in collaboration with South Air, and that the airline would operate flights in both directions between the two cities. For passengers who travel regularly between Peshawar and Lahore for work, family visits, business or study, the new service removes the need for a long road journey or a connection through another city.
First flight on Iqbal Day, 9 November
The timing of the launch is deliberate. The first Peshawar to Lahore flight is scheduled for 9 November, the birth anniversary of Pakistan’s national poet, Allama Muhammad Iqbal, which is observed as Iqbal Day and a public holiday across the country. Announcing the service, Governor Kundi said the direct air link between the two provincial capitals was being restored on that date, and that the inaugural flight would leave Peshawar at about 1pm.
South Air had already announced the route earlier in the week, confirming through its social media platforms that flights between Peshawar and Lahore would operate in both directions from 9 November. The airline has not yet published full departure schedules or ticket prices for the route, so passengers will need to wait for a further announcement before booking. That detail matters: the launch date and the four-flights-a-week plan are confirmed, but fares and the exact weekly timetable are still to come.
An hour in the air instead of a day on the road
The Peshawar Lahore direct flights are expected to take between 50 minutes and one hour, according to the governor’s announcement. By comparison, the road journey between Peshawar and Lahore usually takes five to six hours by motorway, longer when traffic is heavy. For business travellers, government officials and families split between the two cities, the saving is substantial, and it brings the two provincial capitals within easy reach of each other for a single day’s work.
The route also matters for trade and tourism. Peshawar and Lahore are two of Pakistan’s largest commercial centres, and a direct air link makes it easier for traders, buyers and visitors to move between them without losing a working day to travel. The governor has repeatedly argued that better air connectivity for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would support economic activity, tourism and jobs in the province, and the Peshawar–Lahore service is the latest step in that push.
South Air’s growing network in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
South Air is a new private airline that has been building its domestic network from Peshawar. The carrier received approval earlier this year to operate on the Peshawar–Quetta and Peshawar–Lahore routes, and its Peshawar to Quetta flights are already operating successfully, according to the governor. He said the frequency of the new Peshawar Lahore direct flights would be increased in future as the service settles in.
The airline has also signalled plans to serve more cities in the province. South Air has said it intends to launch flights from Dera Ismail Khan and Chitral airports, and the governor has pressed for direct air links to those cities as well. The airline’s chief executive, Kanwar Muhammad Tariq, has previously said the carrier completed its operational, technical and administrative preparations before starting services. For now, though, the focus is on making the Peshawar–Lahore route work: four flights a week, in both directions, from 9 November.
What passengers should know before booking
Anyone planning to use the new Peshawar Lahore direct flights should keep a few things in mind. First, the 9 November launch date and the 1pm first departure are confirmed by the governor’s announcement, but South Air has not yet released ticket prices or the full weekly schedule, so it is worth checking the airline’s official channels before making plans. Second, the flights will operate from Bacha Khan International Airport in Peshawar, the province’s main airport, and Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore, so passengers should confirm the terminal and check-in time when they book.
Finally, the launch comes at a time when domestic air travel in Pakistan is expanding, with new private carriers adding routes between cities that were previously served only by road or through a connection. If the Peshawar Lahore direct flights fill their seats, more frequencies and more routes from Peshawar are likely to follow. For now, the message for travellers is simple: from Monday, 9 November, the two cities are an hour apart by air.
