Launch Context
The Smart 9 launched globally in September 2024 and reached Pakistan shortly after, replacing the Smart 8. It arrived alongside the Smart 9 HD, giving Infinix two rungs on the entry-level ladder. In 2025 the Smart 10 series began appearing, but the Smart 9 remains on sale at a discount and is still the value king of its segment.
Display and Design
A 120Hz refresh rate at Rs. 26,999 is the Smart 9’s killer feature — scrolling and animations feel far smoother than the 90Hz screens on rival budget phones. The 720p resolution is modest but acceptable at this price, and the Mint Green and Sandstone Gold finishes look cheerful.
Performance
The Helio G81 with 4GB of RAM handles WhatsApp, YouTube, TikTok and light games comfortably on the Go-edition software. It is not a gaming phone, but for everyday essentials it is dependable. The dedicated microSD slot means storage can grow cheaply.
Camera
The 13MP rear camera takes decent daylight photos for social media, and the ring-LED flash is a neat design touch. Low-light shots are noisy, and the 8MP front camera is basic — expectations should match the price.
Battery and Charging
The 5000mAh battery is the other headline: with the modest 720p screen and efficient chip, it easily lasts two days of typical use. The trade-off is slow 10W charging — a full charge takes around two hours.
Helio G81 and Android Go: What 4GB RAM Really Gets You
The MediaTek Helio G81 is a 12nm octa-core chip (two Cortex-A75 plus six Cortex-A55 cores) — modest silicon, but well matched to the Smart 9’s mission. Android 14 Go edition with XOS 14 is optimised for exactly this hardware: lighter apps, restrained background processes and a UI that stays responsive on 4GB of RAM. WhatsApp, YouTube, TikTok, Facebook and JazzCash/Easypaisa all run smoothly. The limits are honest ones: heavy multitasking slows down, PUBG Mobile only manages low settings, and big 3D games are off the table. For calls, messaging, social media, online classes and YouTube — the actual workload of most entry-level buyers in Pakistan — it is dependable. The dedicated microSD slot means the 128GB storage can grow cheaply as photo libraries expand.
Display Analysis: 120Hz at 720p
A 120Hz refresh rate at Rs. 26,999 remains remarkable — scrolling, animations and UI transitions feel far smoother than the 60–90Hz screens on rival budget phones. The trade-off is resolution: 720 x 1600 on a 6.7-inch panel is visibly soft next to 1080p screens, with slightly fuzzy text edges. At 500 nits peak brightness, outdoor visibility is a struggle under direct sun. Infinix clearly prioritised motion smoothness over sharpness, and for the target audience — social scrollers and video watchers — that is the right call. Videos look fine; just do not expect crisp document reading.
Battery Deep Dive: The Two-Day King
The 5000mAh battery is the Smart 9’s other headline. A modest 720p screen and an efficient workload mean typical users — WhatsApp, calls, YouTube, some TikTok — genuinely see two days between charges. Even heavy users get through a full day with margin. The compromise is 10W charging: a full charge takes around two hours, so overnight charging is the routine. Reverse wired charging can top up earbuds in an emergency. For parents, students in hostels and anyone who forgets to charge nightly, this endurance is the phone’s best argument.
Camera Expectations at Rs. 27,000
Keep expectations honest and the 13MP camera delivers: daylight photos are decent for Facebook and WhatsApp status, with natural colours and acceptable detail. The ring-LED flash is a neat design touch that helps close-range night shots. Low light is noisy, dynamic range is limited, and the 8MP front camera is basic — fine for video calls, soft for selfies. Nobody buys a Rs. 26,999 phone for photography, and the Smart 9 does not embarrass itself. It is a communication tool with a camera, not the reverse.
Smart 9 vs Smart 9 HD: Which Entry-Level Pick?
| Feature | Smart 9 (Rs. 26,999) | Smart 9 HD (Rs. 22,999) |
|---|---|---|
| Storage | 128GB | 64GB |
| RAM | 4GB | 4GB |
| Display | 6.7″ 720p, 120Hz | 6.7″ 720p, 90Hz |
| Everything else | Same Helio G81, 5000mAh battery, 13MP camera | |
The Rs. 4,000 premium for the standard Smart 9 buys double the storage and a 120Hz screen — both worth it. Only pick the HD if Rs. 22,999 is a hard ceiling; 64GB fills up fast with WhatsApp media alone.
Pros and Cons
- Pros: 120Hz display at this price; two-day battery; 128GB storage; IP54 rating; headphone jack.
- Cons: Slow 10W charging; 720p display; basic cameras; modest performance; Go-edition software.
