KSE-100 Crosses 168,000: PSX Gains 1,454 Points on 3 November 2026

The Pakistan Stock Exchange started its day on 3 November 2026 with a roar. Within the first minutes of trading, the benchmark KSE-100 index shot up more than 1,300 points and crossed the 168,000 mark for the first time, riding a wave of investor optimism as news of diplomatic talks between the United States and Iran lifted market sentiment.

By the close of the session, the KSE-100 settled at 168,018.87 after gaining 1,454.80 points, or 0.87 percent. It was a broad-based rally, with heavy buying across energy, fertiliser and banking stocks pushing the market higher through the day. For a market that has spent months inching forward, Tuesday’s move was one of the sharpest single-day gains in recent memory — and a reminder of how quickly sentiment can turn when the global picture brightens.

The numbers tell the story of a confident market. The KSE-100 index opened at 167,869.45, already up 1,305.39 points from the previous close of 166,564.06. It touched an intraday high of 168,469.78 and never seriously looked back, ending the day firmly above the 168,000 threshold that had seemed out of reach just days earlier.

Trading activity was equally strong. Regular-market volumes reached approximately 517 million shares, with traded value standing at around Rs20.7 billion, according to market reports — a sign that this was not a thin, holiday rally but genuine participation from institutional and retail investors alike. US-Iran Talks Lift Investor Sentiment

Market watchers pointed to one clear driver behind the rally: optimism surrounding diplomatic talks between the United States and Iran. News of progress in the negotiations calmed fears of a wider conflict in the region — and for Pakistan’s market, where energy and fertiliser giants carry heavy index weight, geopolitical calm translates directly into buying interest.

The sentiment was not limited to one sector. Energy stocks such as OGDC and PPL, banking names including Meezan Bank and MCB, and fertiliser heavyweights all saw sustained buying. When the fear premium attached to regional tensions eases, money flows back into equities — and Tuesday’s session showed exactly how fast that flow can be.

Which Stocks Led the Rally

A handful of heavyweights did most of the lifting. Fauji Fertilizer Company (FFC), Engro Holdings (ENGROH), Pakistan Services Limited, Meezan Bank (MEBL) and Engro Fertilizers (EFERT) collectively added around 701 points to the KSE-100 index on Tuesday, market reports said. Fauji Fertilizer shares saw particularly heavy investor interest, with buyers driving the stock sharply higher as sentiment turned.

The fertiliser sector’s strength makes sense: cheaper energy expectations and a stable demand outlook give these companies a solid earnings base. Engro Holdings’ move added further fuel, and banking stocks benefited from the broader confidence. Together, the top five contributors accounted for nearly half of the index’s total gain — a classic pattern in a sentiment-driven rally, where the market’s biggest names lead and the rest follow.

Whether the rally extends depends largely on how the diplomatic picture develops — and on whether the fresh money that entered on Tuesday stays. Monday’s session had already added 154.81 points to take the index to 166,564.07, so the market was entering Tuesday with momentum; the US-Iran news provided the spark. Analysts will now watch whether the index can hold above 168,000 in the coming sessions, which would confirm this as a genuine breakout rather than a one-day wonder.
