Fazeela Abbasi Money Laundering Case: Federal Constitutional Court Disposes of Her Petition After Counsel Withdraws It

On Monday, 2 November 2026, the Federal Constitutional Court disposed of a petition filed by well-known dermatologist and social media personality Dr Fazeela Abbasi — the elder sister of actor Hamza Ali Abbasi — in connection with her money-laundering case, after her counsel withdrew the plea during proceedings.

A two-member bench headed by Chief Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan heard the matter. During the hearing, Fazeela Abbasi’s lawyer withdrew the petition, following which the court disposed of it without giving any ruling on the merits of the challenge.

The petition had challenged the Islamabad High Court’s earlier decision to reject her request for quashing the FIR registered against her. With the withdrawal, that legal challenge has ended — and the Federal Investigation Agency’s cases against her continue under the existing court orders.

What happened in court on 2 November

According to reports from the court proceedings, the Federal Constitutional Court took up the petition on Monday as part of its regular cause list. A two-member bench, headed by the Chief Justice and including Justice Aamer Farooq, heard the case in Islamabad.

When the proceedings began, counsel for Dr Fazeela Abbasi informed the court that they were withdrawing the petition. The bench accepted the withdrawal and disposed of the matter, which means the court did not examine or decide the questions raised in the petition — including whether the FIR against her should have been quashed.

The petition was the latest in a series of legal moves by the dermatologist’s team after the Islamabad High Court refused to set aside the cases against her. Legal observers note that a withdrawal is different from a dismissal on merits: the court expressed no view on the allegations either way.

The FIA’s allegations: Rs2.5 billion, 22 accounts

The Federal Investigation Agency registered two separate cases against Dr Fazeela Abbasi, according to investigators cited in media reports. One case concerns alleged money laundering and is being pursued by the FIA’s Commercial Banking Circle; the other relates to allegations that she operated a medical facility without the required legal approvals and is being handled by the agency’s Anti-Corruption Wing.

Investigators claim they traced financial transactions worth more than Rs2.5 billion through multiple domestic and foreign currency accounts. At least 22 bank accounts have been linked to the dermatologist, with a combined credit turnover estimated at roughly Rs2.5 billion, according to officials cited by news outlets — though some media reports have suggested the total volume of transactions under review could be higher.

The FIA has alleged that prima facie evidence points to the use of informal hawala and hundi channels, and that funds were transferred abroad, including to the United States and the United Arab Emirates. These claims remain under investigation and have not been established in a court of law.

During the probe, a joint bank account held by Dr Fazeela Abbasi and her brother Hamza Ali Abbasi was reportedly examined by investigators and frozen. In earlier court proceedings, Dr Abbasi had sought the restoration of that account. In March 2026, the Islamabad High Court dismissed her plea to quash the case — ruling that the inquiry could continue under the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act — while a special central court declined to extend her pre-arrest bail.

Hamza Ali Abbasi distances himself — and what comes next

Hamza Ali Abbasi, one of Pakistan’s most recognised television and film actors, issued a formal statement earlier this year distancing himself from his sister’s legal troubles. Posting on Instagram, he wrote that he was not under investigation, was not a party to the case, and had no connection to his sister’s legal or professional matters.

In the same statement, he expressed full support for Dr Fazeela, describing her as a highly accomplished professional whose integrity deserved recognition, and warned that continued association of his name with the case could prompt legal action against media speculation.

Dr Fazeela Abbasi has been a practising dermatologist since 2003 and is widely recognised in Pakistan’s aesthetic medicine industry, alongside a significant social media following. Her case has drawn sustained public attention, partly because of the family connection to her famous brother and partly because of the scale of the figures involved.

For now, the withdrawal of the petition before the Federal Constitutional Court closes one legal avenue for the dermatologist — but the underlying FIA cases remain live. Every allegation in the case remains exactly that: an allegation, yet to be proved in court. What happens next will depend on how the investigation and the pending proceedings move forward in the coming weeks.
