The Announcement: “Azmar — It Means Lion”
Pakistani actors Ameer Gilani and Mawra Hocane have shared the happiest news of their lives with their fans. The celebrity couple announced on Friday, October 23, that they have welcomed their first child — a baby boy they have named Azmar. The announcement of Ameer Gilani’s son Azmar came through an emotional Instagram post that quickly went viral.
Introducing their newborn to the world, the couple shared his full name: Syed Azmar Hussain Kamal Gilani. In the announcement, Ameer explained the meaning behind the name, writing, “Azmar — it means lion.” He paired the name reveal with a verse from the Quran: “And your Lord will surely give you, and you will be content.”
Calling the little one their “littlest most precious treasure”, the new parents described baby Azmar as “the king of our jungle, our pride”, words that instantly melted the hearts of their fans across Pakistan and beyond.
Azaan in His Son’s Ear
The announcement came in the form of a touching video that Ameer Gilani shared on social media. In the clip, recorded at the hospital, the actor can be seen softly reciting the Azaan — the Islamic call to prayer — into his newborn son’s ear, a cherished religious tradition observed by Muslim families around the world.
The intimate father-son moment quickly became the highlight of the announcement. Fans praised the couple for sharing such a personal and spiritual moment with the public, and the video spread rapidly across social media platforms within hours of being posted.
Celebrity Congratulations Pour In
Within hours of the announcement of Ameer Gilani’s son Azmar, the couple’s fellow artists flooded their posts with love, prayers and congratulations. Superstar Mahira Khan was among the first to celebrate, expressing her joy and playfully wishing for a future meetup between baby Azmar and her own son, Azlan.
Veteran actress Saba Faisal shared her happiness, remarking that she has now become a grandmother figure to the little one. Other stars including Zainab Shabir, Nida Yasir, Nadia Hussain and Usman Mukhtar also sent their warm wishes to the growing family, calling the news a blessing.
Mawra Hocane, on her part, thanked her fans and friends for their love and expressed her own emotions as a new mother, saying how much she already loves her son.
Fans Had Already Guessed
For the sharpest followers, the announcement did not come entirely out of the blue. The couple had kept the pregnancy private, but eagle-eyed fans began speculating during Mawra’s birthday celebration in September, when newborn accessories were spotted in the background of shared photos.
At the time, the whispers were never confirmed — until Ameer Gilani finally ended the suspense with Friday’s heartwarming post, confirming that fans’ guesses about Ameer Gilani’s son Azmar had been right all along.
From Co-Stars to Life Partners
Ameer Gilani and Mawra Hocane’s love story began on television sets. The pair first worked together in the drama serial Sabaat in 2020, and later appeared together in Neem in 2023 and Agar Tum Saath Ho. Their on-screen chemistry kept fans curious about their off-screen bond for years.
The couple tied the knot in a private ceremony in February 2025, choosing an intimate celebration with close family and friends. Since then, they have occasionally shared glimpses of their married life with followers, each post drawing warm responses from their audience.
Now, with the arrival of Ameer Gilani’s son Azmar, the couple has stepped into the most exciting chapter of their lives — and their fans are celebrating right alongside them, showering the family with prayers for the little one’s health, happiness and bright future.
