Shadab Khan 2026: Career, Stats and Latest News
Shadab Khan has been Pakistan’s premier leg-spin all-rounder for nearly a decade, and the 2026 season marked an important chapter in his career as he completed a full comeback from shoulder surgery and re-established himself in the national side. The right-arm leg-break bowler from Mianwali, born on 4 October 1998, turned 28 in October 2026 and remains one of the most sought-after T20 cricketers in franchise leagues around the world.
What sets the all-rounder apart is his three-dimensional value: wicket-taking leg-spin, aggressive lower-order batting and exceptional fielding. Few cricketers offer so much across all facets of the game, which is why Pakistan have relied on him since his debut year of 2017, when his stellar performances earned him the PCB’s Emerging Player of the Year award. He has also served as vice-captain of the T20I side and has captained Pakistan on several occasions.
Shadab Khan stats: wickets, runs and records
His career statistics underline his longevity. As of October 2026, he has played 6 Tests, scoring 300 runs and taking 14 wickets with best figures of 3/31. In 73 one-day internationals, he has scored 955 runs and taken 87 wickets with best figures of 4/27. In 124 T20 internationals, he has scored 1,009 runs at a strike rate above 140 and taken 123 wickets with best figures of 4/8.
His most celebrated record came on 27 March 2023 against Afghanistan, when he became the first male cricketer from Pakistan to claim 100 T20I wickets, a landmark that cemented his status among the format’s premier bowlers. He was also part of Pakistan’s ICC Champions Trophy-winning squad in 2017 and played a key role in the runs to the T20 World Cup final in 2022 and the Asia Cup final the same year.
In the Pakistan Super League, he has been the face of Islamabad United, leading them to a record third PSL title as captain in 2024. His franchise footprint now spans more than eight leagues worldwide, including the Big Bash, the Caribbean Premier League, ILT20 and The Hundred.
Latest news: 2026 comeback and recent form
The latest news around the leg-spinner has centred on his successful return after shoulder surgery in 2025. He rebuilt his rhythm through the Big Bash League before returning to the national side, and PSL 2026 proved he was back to his best: playing for Islamabad United, he scored 173 runs at a strike rate of 141.80 and took 17 wickets, making him one of the standout performers of the tournament.
At the 2026 T20 World Cup in February, he contributed 118 runs at a strike rate of 153.25 along with 5 wickets. In October 2026, he featured in Pakistan’s home T20I series against Sri Lanka, playing all three matches at Rawalpindi and picking up wickets in the series, including 1/19 in the third T20I. As Pakistan build towards the ODI tri-series later in October, his all-round experience remains a valuable asset for the squad.
Comeback story and franchise demand
The shoulder surgery that interrupted his 2025 season could have derailed many careers, but the road back was carefully managed. A stint in the Big Bash League allowed him to rebuild bowling rhythm away from the spotlight, and by the time the PSL arrived, his variations and control were back to their best. The 17-wicket, 173-run PSL 2026 campaign was widely seen as proof that the all-rounder had fully rediscovered his rhythm.
That comeback mattered because few Pakistani cricketers are as valuable in the global T20 economy. With successful stints in the BBL, the CPL, ILT20, The Hundred and several other leagues, he has become one of the most travelled Pakistani cricketers of his generation, valued as much for his energy in the field as for his wicket-taking leg-breaks.
