Pakistan defeated arch-rivals India by eight wickets in their second match of the IMC Over-40 Cricket World Cup 2026 in Guyana, registering a commanding victory built on disciplined bowling and a confident chase.
Pakistan bowled India out for 143 runs in 34.3 overs and then chased down the target in just 26.2 overs, losing only two wickets along the way.
India Dismissed for 143
India won the toss and elected to bat first in the ninth match of the tournament at Georgetown. However, Pakistan’s bowlers struck regularly to restrict the side to a modest total.
Mohammad Khalil led the bowling attack with three wickets for 23 runs in seven overs. Mohammad Irfan claimed two wickets for 25 runs in six overs, while Fahad Jabbar took two for 12 in 3.3 overs. Wasim Ali and Syed Fareeduddin picked up one wicket each.
For India, Murtaza Ali top-scored with 48 runs, while Amit Mishra contributed 38. The Indian batting line-up never found momentum against Pakistan’s disciplined attack.
Akmal and Ghani Seal the Chase
In reply, Pakistan completed the chase in just 26.2 overs. Adnan Akmal and Sheharyar Ghani starred with the bat, scoring unbeaten 63 runs each as Pakistan finished at 144 for two wickets.
Amit Mishra took both wickets for India, finishing with two for 15 in his six overs, but his effort was not enough to stop Pakistan from cruising to victory.
Second Straight Win in the Tournament
The win over India was Pakistan’s second consecutive victory in the competition. Pakistan had opened their campaign with a comprehensive victory over the Rest of the Caribbean, bowling the opposition out for just 71 runs.
In that opening match, Mohammad Khalil claimed two early wickets, Wasim Ali took three, and Farid-ud-Din Agha delivered an impressive spell to claim four as Pakistan dismissed the Caribbean side for a modest total.
Key Performances in the Match
The victory was a team effort, but several players stood out. Mohammad Khalil’s three-wicket burst set the tone with the ball, while Mohammad Irfan and Fahad Jabbar provided excellent support by keeping the Indian scoring rate in check.
With the bat, the unbeaten partnership between Adnan Akmal and Sheharyar Ghani was the highlight. Their calm, composed innings ensured Pakistan never felt pressure during the chase, even against a familiar and motivated Indian attack.
Amit Mishra’s two wickets showed India’s fighting spirit, but the target simply proved too small once Pakistan’s batters settled in.
