T20 World Cup 2026: Schedule, Teams and Pakistan’s Chances
The T20 World Cup 2026 was played from 7 February to 8 March 2026 in India and Sri Lanka, with 20 teams competing for the biggest prize in T20 cricket. India defended their crown on home soil, crushing New Zealand by 96 runs in the final at Ahmedabad to become the most successful team in the tournament’s history. For Pakistan fans, the T20 World Cup 2026 brought heartbreak — an early exit despite a stunning individual campaign from Sahibzada Farhan.
T20 World Cup 2026 winner: India defend the crown
India are the T20 World Cup 2026 winner. In the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 8 March 2026, India posted a mammoth 255/5 — a record total in a T20 World Cup final — and then bowled New Zealand out for 159 to win by 96 runs. It was India’s third title after 2007 and 2024, and the first time any team successfully defended the crown at home.
The T20 World Cup 2026 final score of 255/5 vs 159 was built on Sanju Samson’s magnificent 89 off 46 balls, the highest individual score in a T20 World Cup final, supported by Abhishek Sharma’s 52 and Ishan Kishan’s 54. Jasprit Bumrah was the player of the final with 4/15, while Sanju Samson was named player of the tournament for his 321 runs at a strike rate of 199.37. The ICC announced a record prize pool of USD 13.5 million, with India taking home USD 3 million.
Pakistan’s campaign at the T20 World Cup 2026
Pakistan’s campaign ended in the group stage despite finishing with a win. In their final Super 8 match at Pallekele, Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by five runs — but needed to restrict the hosts below 147 to overtake New Zealand on net run rate, and Sri Lanka finished on 207/6 chasing 212.
The low point came against India on 15 February 2026 at Colombo’s Premadasa Stadium, where Pakistan were bowled out for 114 chasing 175 and lost by 61 runs. Captain Salman Ali Agha’s side never recovered. The one shining light was Sahibzada Farhan, who finished as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 383 runs, including two centuries — a record tally for a single T20 World Cup edition.
