Harry Kane is staying in Munich — and he is doing it on the biggest contract Bayern Munich have ever handed out. The England captain has signed a new deal that keeps him at the Bundesliga champions until 30 June 2029, ending months of speculation about his future and, according to reports, making him the highest-paid footballer in Europe by salary.
Bayern confirmed the agreement on Thursday 5 November, less than two weeks after Kane won the Ballon d’Or as the world’s best player for 2026. The club’s own announcement put it simply: “The Ballon d’Or winner is staying in Munich!”
The new terms are the most lucrative in Bayern’s history, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, who first reported the agreement. Sky Germany reports that Kane’s basic salary will be more than €25 million a year — above his previous €25 million — while the Daily Mail put his weekly wage at around £400,000. Either way, the deal is understood to make the 33-year-old the best-paid player in Europe on guaranteed salary, although some rivals may still earn more once bonuses and commercial deals are counted.
A record deal for Bayern’s record scorer

Kane arrived at Bayern from Tottenham in the summer of 2023, and the move has been a triumph for both player and club. He has been the Bundesliga’s top scorer in each of his three seasons in Germany, and last season he scored 73 goals in 65 matches for club and country — a return that powered Bayern to another title and carried him to the Ballon d’Or.
That form is exactly why Bayern moved to settle his future now. Kane was approaching the final six months of his previous contract, and the uncertainty had fuelled months of talk about a return to the Premier League, with Manchester United and Barcelona both linked, as well as a possible late-career move to Major League Soccer in the United States.
The new deal shuts all of that down. Kane will be 35 when it expires in June 2029, and Bayern do not see it as his final contract — Ornstein reports that the club wants to keep him for the foreseeable future, and that the door is open to further talks down the line.
Eight rounds of talks — and a deal at last

Getting the agreement over the line took patience. According to German newspaper AZ, Bayern chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen held eight rounds of negotiations with Kane’s father and brother, who handle the striker’s affairs, before the final terms were agreed.
Kane’s side had pushed for a deal running until 2030, or at least an option to extend to that year. The final agreement contains no such option — but it does contain the money. The salary is a club record, and the message from Bayern is clear: their star striker is not going anywhere.
Kane told the club’s official website that he was proud to commit his future to Bayern, and the announcement ended a saga that had hung over the German champions all season. With his future settled, the focus now returns entirely to the football.
What it means for Bayern — and for England

For Bayern, the deal is about more than one player. It gives the club planning security at the heart of its attack, and it sends a signal — in Dreesen’s words — that the biggest goals are possible at Bayern. Players of Kane’s calibre give a team unique opportunities, and Bayern have now locked theirs down through the peak years of his career.
For England, the timing is just as good. Kane remains the captain and the focal point of the national team, and his next appearance will make him the outright most-capped player in England men’s history, overtaking Peter Shilton. He arrives at every international break now with his club future settled and his Ballon d’Or medal in the cabinet.
There had been a time when Kane’s career looked like it might end without the biggest prizes. He left Tottenham without a major trophy, and the questions followed him to Germany. Three seasons later he has the Bundesliga titles, the goals, the Ballon d’Or — and now the richest contract Bayern have ever paid.
The speculation is over. Europe’s highest-paid player, by salary at least, is staying exactly where he is.
