Mr Patlu Breaks Silence After Sialkot Wedding Stampede: Emotional Video Statement and Apology

TikToker Mr Patlu has finally broken his silence after the deadly stampede at his wedding celebrations in Sialkot, releasing an emotional video statement in which he apologised to the public and insisted that he only ever wanted to help the poor. The video, released days after the tragedy that left two people dead and 18 injured, has gone viral across Pakistani social media — drawing both sympathy and sharp criticism.

The Sialkot-based TikToker, whose real name is Ansar Jatt, said he had no other intention beyond helping people, and appealed to the Chief Minister of Punjab and the Field Marshall to personally look into the matter. His statement marks the first time he has spoken publicly since the stampede at the Faraz Cricket Ground on Daska Road turned his wedding festivities into a national talking point.

In the emotional video statement, Mr Patlu appeared visibly distressed as he addressed the tragedy. According to a report on the video message, he said that helping the poor was his only aim and that he never imagined the celebration would end in loss of life. He appealed to the Chief Minister of Punjab and the Field Marshall to investigate the matter fairly.

In a claim that surprised many viewers, Mr Patlu said that he was not even present at the event when the stampede happened. The remark has become one of the most discussed parts of his statement, with social media users questioning how the event spiralled out of control if the host himself was absent from the venue.

The TikToker, who has more than 814,000 followers on the platform, began his wedding celebrations with an intimate nikkah ceremony before announcing the public mehndi event that would later turn tragic.

What happened at the Sialkot wedding event

The stampede broke out on the night of the mehndi ceremony at the Faraz Cricket Ground on Daska Road in Sialkot, where Mr Patlu had extended an open invitation to the public through social media. The invitation promised a spectacular lucky draw, with prizes reportedly including a car, 50 motorcycles, mobile phones and cash — and even financial support for the wedding expenses of 20 deserving girls from underprivileged families.

Thousands of people travelled from Sialkot, Gujranwala, Narowal, Gujrat, Wazirabad, Mandi Bahauddin and other parts of Punjab to attend. According to police, the gates of the venue had remained locked while a large crowd gathered outside, and the situation turned chaotic when entry was finally allowed — an announcement allegedly urging attendees to enter all at once triggered the fatal surge.

Two people lost their lives and 18 others were injured in the crush, as reported in our detailed coverage of the Sialkot mehndi stampede. Rescue 1122 teams rushed the injured to hospital, and the district administration cancelled the remaining wedding events to prevent further harm.

Police action: arrests, FIR and cancelled celebrations

Police have taken a firm line on the incident. Six people have been arrested in connection with the tragedy, while Mr Patlu himself remains at large. A case has been registered at Motra Police Station, with the TikToker named as a suspect, according to local reports quoting a Sialkot police officer.

Investigators are examining whether the stampede resulted from failures by the organisers to follow safety procedures and crowd-management rules. The Sialkot District Emergency Officer has said the rescue service was not informed in advance about the planned gathering at the cricket ground — a serious lapse for an event expected to draw thousands. Mr Patlu could face charges relating to violations of safety standard operating procedures and permit conditions.

Following the tragedy, the rest of Mr Patlu’s wedding programme was postponed, and raids were being conducted for his arrest. The man at the centre of one of Pakistan’s most talked-about weddings is now facing both the law and the court of public opinion.

Public reaction: sympathy for some, anger from many

The internet’s response to Mr Patlu’s emotional statement has been deeply divided. Some viewers expressed sympathy for a man clearly shaken by the tragedy, while many others held him directly responsible. Comments on the video ranged from calling his breakdown an “act” to blunt verdicts that he is responsible for what happened — with several users arguing that TikTokers chase crowds without thinking about safety.

The incident has also triggered a wider debate about influencer culture in Pakistan. Actor Imran Abbas weighed in on the scenes at the wedding event, writing on his Instagram story that he was “truly saddened to see the level of poverty and dearth of literacy” among the crowds, adding that people “don’t even know where to gather for their rights rather they stay home when needed” — and ending with the question: “Ghurbat ya Jahalaat?” (poverty or ignorance). His remarks, reported by showbiz pages, have themselves gone viral and split opinion, with some agreeing and others calling the tone unfair to ordinary people.

Mr Patlu’s wedding had already been dominating trends before the tragedy — fellow creator Nomi Jutt’s Punjabi wedding song “Viyah Patlo Yar Da” stormed to number one on YouTube Pakistan — but the conversation has now shifted from celebration to accountability.

What happens next

The formal investigation will determine whether the organisers breached permit conditions and safety rules, and what charges, if any, Mr Patlu will face. His appeal to the Chief Minister of Punjab and the Field Marshall to look into the matter adds a new political dimension to a case that is already being watched across the country.

Beyond this one case, the tragedy has reopened urgent questions about how large public events are managed in Pakistan — from advance permission and crowd-control planning to coordination with emergency services. For the families of the two people who died and the 18 who were injured, those questions cannot be answered soon enough.

Mr Patlu’s statement may have broken his silence, but the debate it has reignited is only getting louder.
