Pakistan Weather Today: PMD Westerly Wave Ends

The Pakistan Meteorological Department’s westerly wave, which entered the upper parts of the country on 10 October, persists through today — its final day. PMD forecast rain, windstorms and thunderstorms with isolated hailstorms across upper and central Pakistan from 10 to 15 October, with the main rain days in Punjab and Islamabad falling on 10, 11, 13 and 14 October. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa saw the longest spell, with unsettled conditions in Peshawar, Swat, Dir, Chitral, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Kohat, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan through today.

The Met Office warns that strong winds and hail can damage weak structures, electricity poles, billboards and standing crops in the plains of Punjab and KP. Temperatures in affected areas are expected to drop 2–4°C as the system clears.

NDMA Advisory: Rain and Hail Alert

The National Disaster Management Authority issued a weather advisory on 9 October 2026 warning of rain, wind, thunderstorms and isolated hail from 10 to 15 October across Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Peshawar, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Provincial disaster authorities, the National Highway Authority and WAPDA were all directed to stay alert. If you are travelling on motorways or in hilly areas today, check conditions before departing.

Sindh and Balochistan: Hot and Dry

While the north deals with the westerly wave’s last spell, weather in the south is straightforward: Sindh remains hot and dry, with Karachi expecting another warm day as sea breezes stay weak. Most of Balochistan is dry too, though Zhob, Barkhan and Musakhel saw rain earlier in the week. From tomorrow, PMD expects dry weather across most of the country with hot conditions in the plains.

Pakistan Weather Today: What to Expect Tomorrow

From Friday 16 October, the westerly wave moves out and PMD expects dry weather across most of the country, with hot conditions returning to the plains. Islamabad should turn sunny with a high near 28°C, Peshawar mostly sunny around 29°C, and Karachi stays hot and dry. The brief cool-down in the north — temperatures dropped 2–4°C during the wet spell — will ease, so this is a good window for outdoor plans, travel and any repair work postponed during the rain.

Travel and Safety Tips

If you are travelling in the upper regions today, allow extra time on motorways and hilly routes where the last rain spells may have left slippery patches or minor landslides. Farmers in Punjab and KP should secure harvested grain and check standing crops for hail damage once skies clear. Keep an eye on PMD’s official channels for any extension of the advisory — and in the south, stay hydrated as the heat persists.
