A disputed report about what Imran Khan really thinks of the governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has triggered a sharp rebuttal from the PTI leadership. A private television channel claimed on Tuesday that the jailed former prime minister had expressed “no regret” over the end of his party’s government in the province during a meeting with his lawyer at Adiala jail — quoting him as saying that whoever brought down the KP government had “done me a favour, not wronged me”. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan rejected the claim as “completely false”, insisting Imran Khan never used any such words.
The controversy follows a rare meeting between Imran Khan and his lawyer Salman Safdar at Adiala jail on Monday — the first such meeting since 8 April after a long period of restricted access. Details of what was discussed have since become the subject of competing claims, with party sources offering conflicting accounts of the former prime minister’s reaction to the emergency and governor’s rule imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on 11 October.
The disputed claim — “no regret” over the KP government’s end

According to Pakistan Point News, the private channel’s report cited PTI sources as saying Imran Khan showed little regret over the removal of the PTI government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The sources claimed he believed the provincial government had become a burden, with daily complaints about its performance causing him considerable distress, and quoted him as saying: “Whoever brought down this government has done me a favour, not wronged me.” The same report said two more meetings with Imran Khan were expected in the coming days to decide the party’s future political strategy.
Gohar’s rebuttal — “completely false”

Speaking to the media in Rawalpindi on Tuesday after the jail meeting, Barrister Gohar strongly refuted the report. “One thing I must strongly refute — which some TV channel ran, claiming Khan Sahib said it was very good that his government ended in KP — that is completely false,” he said. “Khan sahib never used any such words.” Gohar said Salman Safdar had briefed Imran Khan on the emergency and governor’s rule imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, but there was little political discussion during the meeting. He added that restrictions on meetings with the jailed founder had raised political tension, and that regular access could have prevented the emergency and governor’s rule in the province.
Khan’s reported focus — legal cases and hospital transfer

According to PTI sources quoted on Tuesday, Imran Khan showed little reaction when briefed on the KP developments and instead directed the party to focus on his legal cases and efforts to secure his transfer to a hospital. Gohar said there was no forward bloc in the PTI’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter and that all the party’s lawmakers in the province remained with Imran Khan. He said any decision about a future chief minister for the province would be made by Imran Khan himself.
Background — the KP emergency and the opposition’s response

The federal government imposed emergency and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on 11 October 2026 under Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution, suspending the PTI’s provincial administration for an initial six months and citing the province’s deteriorating security situation. PTI has opposed the move as an attack on provincial autonomy and challenged it in court. The dispute over Imran Khan’s reaction comes as the wider opposition alliance held its joint meeting in Islamabad on Wednesday to plan its next steps.
Khabr.pk reported the details of Gohar’s rebuttal on 3 November.
