Fakhar Zaman 2026: Career, Stats and Latest News
Fakhar Zaman is Pakistan’s most destructive left-handed opener of the modern era, and 2026 has been a year of resilience for him as he fought back from injury to reclaim his place in the national side. Born on 10 April 1990 in Mardan, the 36-year-old has a career defined by fearless strokeplay and some of the most iconic innings in Pakistan’s white-ball history.
Before cricket, the Mardan-born star served as a sailor in the Pakistan Navy, and his journey from naval service to international stardom is one of the most inspiring stories in Pakistan sport. His aggressive approach at the top of the order has repeatedly changed the course of big matches, none more famous than the 2017 Champions Trophy final against India, where his match-winning century powered Pakistan to the title.
Fakhar Zaman stats: centuries and career records
His one-day statistics are outstanding. As of 2026, he has played 92 ODIs, scoring 3,861 runs at an average of 45.42 and a strike rate above 93, with 11 centuries and 19 half-centuries. His highest score of 210 not out, made against Zimbabwe in 2018, made him the first Pakistani batter to score a double century in ODIs — a landmark that still stands among his greatest achievements.
In T20 internationals, he has played 121 matches and scored 2,506 runs at a strike rate above 132, with 14 fifties and a highest score of 91. Across all T20 cricket, he has amassed more than 8,900 runs with four centuries, making him one of the most experienced short-format batters in Pakistan’s history.
Latest news: injury comeback and T20I return
The latest news around the left-hander has been positive. He missed Pakistan’s ODI tour of Bangladesh in March 2026 after sustaining an injury during the T20 World Cup in February — ironically during a sensational 84 off just 42 balls against Sri Lanka at Pallekele, an innings featuring nine fours and four sixes that stood out even as Pakistan exited the tournament. He then underwent rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.
The comeback was completed in October 2026, when he returned to Pakistan’s T20I squad for the home series against Sri Lanka at Rawalpindi. Opening the batting in all three matches, he scored 21 off 13 in the second T20I on 9 October and 22 off 17 in the third T20I on 11 October as Pakistan completed a series victory. His return gives the selectors a proven big-match opener ahead of the busy home season.
Aggressive batting style and big-match temperament
Very few openers in Pakistan’s history have combined power and timing the way he does. The left-hander’s ability to hit through the line in the powerplay, combined with a fearless approach to spin, has repeatedly given Pakistan flying starts in major tournaments. His strike rate above 93 in ODIs reflects a career spent attacking rather than accumulating.
Big occasions have consistently brought out his best, from the Champions Trophy final in 2017 to the double century against Zimbabwe a year later. Coaches who have worked with him often highlight his calm dressing-room presence and his willingness to take responsibility in must-win games, traits that kept the selectors’ faith in him even during lean spells.
