Ramayana World Premiere in Los Angeles: Ranbir Kapoor and Yash’s Epic to Screen at Academy Museum

Indian cinema is preparing for one of its biggest nights on foreign soil. Ramayana, the two-part mythological epic starring Ranbir Kapoor as Ram and Yash as Raavan, will begin its global journey with a grand world premiere in Los Angeles on 27 October 2026, a little over a week before the film opens in cinemas worldwide.

The Ramayana world premiere in Los Angeles will be hosted by the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, inside its David Geffen Theater, where around 945 invited guests are expected to watch the film in 3D. For an Indian production, it is a launch of rare scale, and a clear statement that the makers believe this ancient story belongs to the whole world, not only to audiences back home.

Ramayana World Premiere in Los Angeles: A Red Carpet With a Diwali Heart

Few venues carry the weight of the Academy Museum, an institution devoted to the art and craft of filmmaking and closely associated with the Oscars. Staging the Ramayana world premiere in Los Angeles at such an address places an Indian mythological epic in the very heart of the global film industry, days before its commercial release.

The evening will also carry a distinctly Indian flavour. With Diwali falling around the release window, guests walking the red carpet have reportedly been requested to wear traditional Indian festive attire. The idea, it seems, is to let the celebration feel like a festival as much as a film launch, blending Hollywood glamour with Indian heritage in a way few premieres have attempted before.

Nolan and Cameron Expected to Attend, According to Reports

According to reports, some of the biggest names in world cinema figure on the invitation list. Top Hollywood filmmakers Christopher Nolan and James Cameron are expected to attend the premiere, alongside senior studio executives and delegates from the international film community. The makers have not published an official guest list, so the final line-up will only be known on the night itself.

If the reports prove accurate, the Ramayana world premiere in Los Angeles would become a rare meeting point between two filmmaking worlds. There is already one celebrated Hollywood name inside the film itself: the music has been composed by Oscar winners Hans Zimmer and A. R. Rahman, a pairing that underlines just how international this production has been from the start.

Ram Faces Raavan: The Cast Behind the Epic

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana brings together one of the largest ensembles in recent Indian cinema. Ranbir Kapoor steps into the role of Ram, while Kannada superstar Yash plays his great adversary, Raavan. Sai Pallavi appears as Sita, Sunny Deol takes on the role of Hanuman, and Ravi Dubey plays Lakshman. The wider cast includes Anupam Kher, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Vivek Oberoi, Kunal Kapoor and Lara Dutta.

The film is produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios together with visual effects house DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. Mounted on a reported budget of around Rs 4,000 crore, the two-part project is among the most expensive Indian films ever attempted, with its scale designed for the biggest screens available.

“He Is a Cinema Man”: Ranbir Kapoor’s Praise for Yash

The warmth between the film’s two leads has become part of the story. Speaking at a pre-launch event in Hyderabad, Ranbir Kapoor recalled that his admiration for Yash began with the blockbuster KGF. “I saw KGF; I became a massive fan,” he said, describing how a later meeting in Goa convinced him that his co-star was far more than a screen superstar.

“He is a cinema man,” Ranbir said, praising Yash’s understanding of writing, storytelling, acting, direction and production. He added that he was amazed to see Yash simultaneously running his own home production while filming Ramayana, and said he was genuinely glad to share the screen with him. For a film built on the confrontation between Ram and Raavan, that off-screen respect has only added to the anticipation.

From the Los Angeles Premiere to Cinemas Worldwide on 5 November

After the Ramayana world premiere in Los Angeles, audiences will not have long to wait. Ramayana: Part 1 releases worldwide on 5 November 2026, in standard and IMAX formats, and in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. Advance bookings have begun opening across India, an early sign of the demand the makers are expecting.

The story will then conclude with Ramayana: Part 2, which is due in cinemas for Diwali 2027. Whether the film ultimately matches its enormous ambition will be decided by audiences, but with a premiere of this scale, a cast of this size and music by two Oscar winners, Ramayana has already ensured that the world’s cameras will be pointing at Los Angeles on 27 October.
